we wanna play a joke on my one friend and i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on something that looks like blood that we could smear and stuff but wouldn't mess up a car. Any ideas?

you should be able to find some at a party store in the costume section... it's usually water-based.

The standard way of making fake blood is light corn syrup and red food coloring. However, food coloring is prone to staining whatever it touches. This would likely be true with most anything that was red enough to act as faux blood.

In horror movies they use a mix of Karo syrup and red dye. It is considered the most realistic.
The syrup can be cleaned up but I would worry about the dye.

ketchup; bar b q sauce; beet juice. red food coloring; red Kool Aid (not a lot of water)

in tv they also use strawberry syrup that you can buy right beside the pancake syrup
