Pro-illegals keep making the comment that illegal immigrants pay taxes as if they are making an equal contribution. I just don't understand how they can continue to confidently make this comment considering the majority of illegals are getting paid "under-the-table". Sure, maybe they pay sales tax but they seem to act as if paying sales tax is making an equal contribution in comparison people who pay sales and income tax. Obviously, they're not equal. Real Americans pay both. Plus, a large percentage of their income is being spent in Mexico and not the U.S. so there goes a large portion of the sales tax.

Some do and some don't.

The ones who work under the table don't, of course. But there are plenty of "legals" who do that as well.

But many have phony SS cards and get jobs that have taxes withheld. Of course, the government is well aware of these as the names and numbers don't match up properly. But, knowing that they will never file a tax return and get the refunds and credits that they would otherwise be "entitled" to, the government quietly keeps the money.

This is the dirty little secret between the SSA and IRS. If they turned that information over to USCIS, rounding up a significant portion of the illegals would be child's play. But they won't do this for 2 reasons. First, that extra money stream would dry up. And second, since they work for much lower wages business would have to pay more to legal workers and that would not be "business friendly." Never let it be said that the current administration isn't business friendly! Why else would Bush push for guest workers and amnesty?? To keep business flush with cheap labor, of course!

I've had my SSN hijacked twice so far. Once in the late 70's and once again in the early 80's. Talk about a pain sorting that out!

For the most part they pay more than their share of taxes except for the drug trafficking and if we legalized this too then we could make more money and stop fighting a losing battle. Illegals should not be here in the first place but they keep coming because Americans keep paying them to work. Since they for the most part are unskilled min wage workers they normally would be getting money back with deductions if they were here legally. The US Supreme Court ruled in 2009 that if they are using a false ID just for the purposes of work then it will not be a criminal ID theft charge. Just the social security fund last year had 9 billion dollars that was collected from illegal aliens and they will never get that back. This is from undocumented people working with false cards or someone else's card. This is the mismatched funds. They pay gas tax, sales tax, food tax, cig tax, beer tax and the list goes on. They pay rent for almost 3.7-4 million apartments or homes and this rent or house payment eventually pays property tax, much of which pays education taxes for schools. If they were legal they would get credits for their children but most of them don't file. There are a few thousand that have ITIN numbers and do file but this is not the same as a social security card. It allows them to legally pay taxes with their name but does not change their legal status. Rules of how home purchases were done made changes to the ITIN system so buying homes is not as prevalent as a few year ago. Arguing the point whether they should be here or not does Absolutely no good because they are here and we need to reform the system to keep better track of the criminals and ID them with a system that shares info from ICE, SSA, IRS and Police Agencies and a decent database for employment verification. I know this was a joke Beaners but hey they pay so legalizing them may not help us financially unless we put a cap on a certain amount of years before they could file their tax deductions etc....They could not legally get welfare for several years. I'm taking Spanish lessons now so I can communicate in my neighborhood and maybe be able to order coffee at Beaners.

Of course not. Even on the off chance that they do pay in a little, it is often under a stolen SSN. That just creates problems for the REAL SSN holder. This is usually b/c the CITIZEN is in a higher tax bracket, so the illegal's taxes withheld do not cover the liability that appears to be created for the CITIZEN by seeming to have that second job. Isn't it great -- all the many ways illegals can screw things up for the LEGAL RESIDENTS/CITIZENS?! Argh!

No illegal's don't pay their fair share of taxes, they're "illegals". They get paid under the table, get paid less than minimum wages, who are they going to complain to? And if their income gets reported to the irs, it's usually using someone else's social security number. I remember hearing about a case where a woman was assigned a new social security number because hers had been used so many times by illegals that it would never get totally straightened out.
