Before you assume wrongly that I'm trying to be offensive in any way, consider this: I'm a woman who is interested in a particular guy and I just want to make sure that HE is interested in WOMEN. ...and not men. Because then, of course, he'd technically be unavailable (for me) if he were gay.

A -- No more than it would mean that he's left-handed if he hangs out with left-handers. I'm straight, but have had several gay friends during my lifetime, including a gay landlord. They're just PEOPLE like everyone else, and are just as likely to simply be good friends.

Of course not. All of my friends are straight. They were all surprised to discover how much of a non-stereotypical gay man I am.
Some people are actually able to see past the prejudice of others. They are valued friends. However, they can be just as uncomfortable with homosexual activity as we can be with heterosexual activity.
In addition, assuming that someone is gay because they hang out with gay people is a stereotype that is often used by some heterosexuals to vilify the friends of gays.
The only way to be sure that someone is straight is to ask them and have faith in their answer as being truthful. Let him know that you're interested. Once you do, your answer should be clear.

At most said before me.....if a guy hangs around with gay friends...he is more likely to be straight and to remain straight, as he is more comfortable with his sexuality.
Plus girls seem to enjoy gay friends more than 'girl friends'. Maybe the straight guy too has this characteristic?
Best thing to do, is to talk to one of his gay mates and ask them discreetly, if you are still unsure!

it could mean he's open minded but dont bet the best years of your life on it. find out from him. if he backs away or worse gets angry, RUN. if he is calm or at least can discuss it in a civilized way and assure you that he simply likes those guys then he might be worth the risk. open minded people are very good people to grow old with since they don't hold you back to fit their set ways

I hang out with black people. Does that make me 'black'? Maybe he's friendly and open minded. Ask him. Ask him if he'll go out on a date with you, or if he's more into guys. It might embarass him if he's straight, but you have to find out. Ask his gay buddies. I'm sure they know the low-down on that guy's orientation.

It doesn't mean he is at all. Some of my brother's best friend are gay and he is married with a kid. And believe me he is completely straight.
