Gee that's a tough one... let me think about for a sec... the Beatles. The Monkees were a created for TV band - the only one that could actually play an instrument was Michael Nesmith. All of the songs performed by the Monkees were written by somebody else. The Beatles wrote their own songs, changed music, changed society, and had the top 5 songs at the same time for the first time in history.
The Beatles, by a country mile.

While the Monkees did have a few songs and a Cartoon
on Sat. mornings. They weren't even in the same"ballpark"
as far as Music and Rock-n-Roll on the whole. The "Beatles" were the forefront of the "British Invation" of the 60's. NO CONTEST

You are not seriously asking this. You must have lived a life without any decent music until now. Have you ever even listened to the Fab Four? Like, to whole albums? There is no need for comparisons. The Beatles are music geniuses. They were deep and silly and smart. They were music gods. You cannot compare them to anything. The Beatles are the best. No one can compete.

Are you kidding me? The Monkees sucked! They couldn't even play their own instruments! Of course, the Beatles...
