If you haven't read The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot yet, it is a very easy and fun read with a main character in high school. It is also a bit different from the movie.
Twisted by Laurie Anderson
What My Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones
Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison
Violet and Claire, Dangerous Angels, and Girl Goddess #9 by Francesca Lia Block
Blue is for Nightmares by Laurie Faria Stolarz
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
Gossip Girl #1 by Cecily von Ziegesar
The Clique by Lisi Harrison
All are pretty easy reads about high schoolers, some better than others, but certainly worth a read.

*I LOVED "Speak," by Laurie Anderson. I don't want to go into too many details, because it would ruin the big secret in the story, but it is about a high school freshman who is ostracized from her classmates because of one fateful summer night shortly before school started.
The book is from the main character's (Melinda) point of view...she having a hard time speaking to anyone, and becomes more and more drawn into herself. The book is amazing and is an interesting study of a high school outcast. The story slowly unfolds and we learn more and more about Melinda and as the reader you are drawn into her story.
*You may also enjoy "Cut," by Patricia McCormick. It is about a high school girl who is sent to a psychiatric hospital for cutting herself. Callie struggles with this problem, along with her dysfunctional family.
*There is also "Girl, Interrupted," by Susanna Kaysen. There was also a movie, made in the late 90s that starred Wynona Rider and Angelina Jolie. This book may be a bit more difficult, but it is interesting and watching the movie may help. It is about a young woman who is institutionalized in the late 1960s (its a true story, by the way) and what happens to her there. I read this in high school and enjoyed it greatly...
*I also highly recommend "The Lovely Bones," by Alice Sebold. Again, this is a little more dense, but it is an amazing book. It is about 14-year-old Susie, who is raped and murdered in the beginning of the book and looks down on her family and friends from heaven. We see her murderer living his life, her family living theirs and see how the death of Susie has a ripple effect that changes everything forever. It is a deeply touching book.
You might like "Speak" and "Cut" more than the other two, but these are all interesting books that feature characters in your age group. Enjoy!

This list looks pretty good http://www.seminolecountyfl.gov/lls/library/kids/kids_10-12.html although it doesn't have book summaries.
This one has summaries: http://www.bellmore-merrick.k12.ny.us/readit10.html
That should be enough for you to peruse, but if you need more just do a search for "tenth grade reading list". Be patient and persistent as you go through the different lists - many will be useless, a few will be good.
I hope this helps.

You know, if you can understand the words to any book, it is okay to read it. It doesn't have to be a 'teen' book, it could even be an 'adult' book. Reading for enjoyment should not be relegated to one type of storyline. Like just for teens, just for juveniles, just for adults. If you understand the words and enjoy the reading, read it.
