Alcohol can damage the developing brain of the baby, especially during the first 3 month.
Drugs lead to babies addicted to drugs at birth and severe health problems.
Smoking reduces the oxygen that the baby gets, resulting in low birth weight.

Smoking anything can cause harm to the baby by the lack of oxygen that will be in your system. Drinking can cause fetal alcohol syndrome and other complications such as learning disabilities... Drugs... Well there are alot of things it can do to the baby... placental abrupt ion is one... Not to mention your baby will be born addicted to what ever drug you put into your system and have to detox which can be harmful in itself... I attached a link I hope you find useful.

If you drink while pregnant the child will be born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. If you take drugs, the child will be a drug addict. If you smoke, the child will be underweight at birth. I teach this information to Early Childhood Education students in my college class.

Because all these things enter your bloodstream which is then fed into your baby. Babies can be born addicted to alcohol, drugs and yes nicotine and it can also cause illnesses and deformities. If you want a healthy baby then you'll stay away from these things.

It's bad because the drugs actually enter the bloodstream of the fetus. Since the fetus is still developing, the use of drugs could cause the development process to not work correctly. This leads to sick babies, underweight babies or disabled babies.

Its bad because substance a woman takes into her body is transferred to her child. Would you give your newborn a bonghit? A shot of tequila? No. So why do that when they are in your tummy? Your child could come out with serious mental problems and/or developmental problems.
