First of all, I am a proud nursing mommy. I have nursed 6 children, one of them until he was 2.5 years old. I have nursed in public many times, however, I am as discrete as possible. I try to expose as little breast (by pulling my shirt up) as possible and then, after my baby has latched on, I drape a blanket over us.
This weekend, our family was at a carnival. As I was enjoying lunch with my boys and some of our friends, I saw a lady walking by. I had to take a double take because she was walking and nursing her baby - all the while her entire breast was exposed. She had on a tank top that had been pulled down and you could see everything but her nipple. There were well over a 1000 people walking around. She sat down next to us. Peering over, I saw her baby latch on to her other breast and caught a glimpse of the entire thing, nipples & all.
A part of me wants to give her a pat on the back. The other part of me wants to say, "please be more discrete".
What do you think?

It completely depends on the person you are, i personally wouldnt mind it because well i have done it and its a natural thing, but some peoples first reaction is to be insulted or embarassed as they werent expecting it or they just think its ignorant and disrespectful.

As a male, I feel some discretion should be used. When I was in retailing, it was not at all unheard of to find a woman sitting between rows of clothing and breast-feeding while the store had an area where that could have been done in private.
The most embarassing time was when I thought the woman, sitting between rows of blue jean cubes, was slipping pants on over hers to walk out in (some have been stopped with 6 pairs layered), so I came around the corner fast and there was baby feeding happily.

I think its fantastic for her to do that. She is going against the whole idea that breasts are there for sexual purposes only and I hope she shocked a few of those "page 3 reader" men! I am still feeding my son and he is 2 1/2 now and ive fed him all over the place. I must admit I don't feed him in public now because I get some strange looks and I was more discreet when he was younger too if I was in public. It really annoys me when I go into a cafe and they have a sign that says "breastfeeding friendly" as if any mother wouldnt breastfeed if the sign wasnt there. For some reason modern society frowns on breastfeeding which, to me is the most amazing way to bond with your child, and expect us all to bottle feed our babies. When I was pregnant people used to ask if im going to breastfeed my son and it dawned on me that id never considered another option.

I have absolutely NO issue with this whatsoever! I think it's perfectly natural. In the US I think we have a very sick sense of what is indecent. If a woman is comfy enough to have her breast exposed kudos! I've been to European countries where this is perfectly acceptable and nobody even gives it a second thought! I feel like the people that have a problem with it have a deep seeded emotional issue themselves. I plan on breastfeeding myself and although I will choose to be a little more discrete, that is my choice.... I feel to each their own!~
Very Best Wishes!

I honestly don't see a problem with it, to each their own. It's crazy how many ppl think it's inappropriate though, I just think that they think it's bad bc they automatically associate a bare breast with sex or something sexual when in fact it's food supply for the baby. It's not like the woman is flashing ppl just for the hell of it and if you don't appreciate human nature then simply turn away. We don't make ppl eating in public places be discreet so why make babies and mommys do it?

I agree she should have been just a little more discreet. But she must either have a lot of courage to do that (be exposed that much I mean) or be just a little nieve in thinking no one would see. I'm pregnant with my first and am planning on breastfeeding as well. I just wish others didn't think it was inappropriate, or gross. It's natural afterall

with family and friends I felt no pressure to be discrete. But public, its different. People have enough hangups about women nursing in public without adding fuel to the fire.

I have run into the same thing, and I have four boys...Dont appreciate it! They know how Mama feeds the baby, but they dont need to see other women feed theirs in such a manner..It should be a private thing! I do it very discreetly in public, no prob...But, we wear shirts to cover those up...they should be covered in public, feeding or not.

Every mother has to feed their child, but a smart woman knows how to be discrete.
