Save our souls (And no it is not referring to the spirit or soul but the body.) SOS
Also Save our Ship (The soul's on board being implicit.) SOS
"When it was selected for an emergency code, it didn't mean anything. They picked it because in Morse code, it's three dots, three dashes (or dahs), and three more dots. The "save our ships"/"save our souls" is urban legend."
This sounds good. Do you have a source to back it up or are you just spreading more "Urban-Legends". This is a sincere inquiry.

When it was selected for an emergency code, it didn't mean anything. They picked it because in Morse code, it's three dots, three dashes (or dahs), and three more dots. The "save our ships"/"save our souls" is urban legend.
And in case you wonder, the distress signal Mayday comes from the French "m'aidez," which means "help me."

Maybe it means something else now, but it's from the distress signal for ships. It stood for Save Our Ship. They needed something quick before radios were available.

It's a distress signal. aka I need help, or Mayday. SOS is simple way of asking for assistance.
