For me it is False,
In Australia it is one of the fastest growing market, as a lot of people find it easier to be able to ride to work on a scooter than an a motorcycle or car.
Also for those who believe that riding a scooter is easier than riding a bike........What world are you living on? To ride a scooter requires the same amount of skill, concentration and ability to ride as a normal motorcycle does. The difference being you have a huge bonus in being protected more from the weather and you don't have to worry about foot pegs.
The scooters of today can also rival the speed/power of some of the bigger cc motorcycles (not to mention that a lot have come out with similar sized engines of those bigger motorcycles)
They also have a lot of storage (a bit like having a boot of a car on a motorcycle)
And just so you know I do not own one, as I prefer the look of the fully faired sport motorcycle, yet if I had to go to work I would seriously consider having one, as they are light on fuel, do the speed limit, compact, great for the environment, and the list goes on.

It's that choice thing again
To me riding on two wheels is "motorcycling"
Are sport bikes dangerous
Are Harleys "agricultural"
The answer is no it is choice. I actually ride a Harley and am very pleased with it. I have had Honda Wings but never a sports bike
That said I think that some of the sports and sport tourers are great bikes
Likewise some of the scooters are great bikes. Not over sure about the twist and go range but it does allow younger riders to get out there
My only gripe would be the attitude to the road of some of the young riders. I did say "some" and it is those that seem to treat safety as something they do not necessarily need to apply and that does worry me a bit as they are putting me as a road user at some risk. Some might be on scooters and some might be on bikes
Whatever your choice just enjoy and keep safe with the shiny side UP

If you live in a high traffic area, I can't think of a single thing wrong with a scooter. Great gas mileage, easy to move around a crowded street. I've been riding for years and I don't have a problem with scooters at all. While I've never rode one, I think it would be kinda fun. Some people are real dense about the whole riding thing and they are the ones that give the rest of us a bad name.

They are not cissy machines, but they are not cool in the UK. In Europe, scooters are cool because people use them throughout life.

Scooters in the UK are predominantly a "starter vehicle". About 95% of riders only have a scooter because it's the only motorised transport they can have (for whatever reason) and they are only riding the scooter until they get something else. This is why they are not cool just like stabilisers (training wheels) are not cool.

I've had fun riding a scooter in Cozumel. I wouldn't buy one but they can be fun.

If someone wants to ride one, if someone thinks they look cool....all the power to them. Maybe someday they will want more power and handling and then they will buy a motorcycle.

Harley is the bike for sissies and posers. Anyone who would spend twice the money for a bike with half the performance is a dork.

My daughter has one and it is a hoot to ride I've got a Honda 599 and its fun but something about the scooter just makes me smile when I have "had" to ride it. Make sure its safe you know . Don't let those snobs put you off buying one if you want one get one.

BTW the smaller scooters 50cc ride more like bicycles than motorbikes the centre of gravity is higher because most of the weight is you not the scooter.

I own 3 Harleys.2 of them sit in the garage most of the time becauuse I can only ride one at a time,But I've been considering a scooter just for fun.I rode my friends and it was a real hoot.I don't plan on taking any long trips on it but would like to have one just for messin' around.I don't really care what other people think and neither should you.

Well im enough of a man,not to feel that my manhood is threatened whenever i use my little scooter when working on a local contract.

My normal motorbike is a BMWR 1150 GS Adventure....possibly one the largest Dual Sport bikes on the planet...huge bike,33 litre fuel tank, massive aluminium panniers...full off-road spec such as crash bars and knobbly tyres..but you know what its a bastard to ride something weighing 300 kg around London in rush hour...so i sometimes use my scooter.

Call me a sissy....just start running, before you finish saying it :)

Go to Europe and ask this question.. American riders (male) are so insecure with their manhood that they snub their nose towards those riding a scooter.. I ride a scooter, Yamaha Morphous and a full size 94 HD FXR. Depends upon my mood and needs as to what I ride. If you don't like what I choose you can bite me. Oh, by the way, none of you newbies are gonna get a wave from me while I'm ridin' the Glide.

False on both counts. I've got years and miles on a motorcycle and I don't think scooters are "sissy".

Scooter riders take all the risks that motorcyclists take and they do it on a machine that's usually smaller, not as quick and is often not regarded seriously by cagers. My hat's off to them.
