what's w/ all of this racism against people of the same race?

i just don't why people who are the same try to make unnecessary divisions b/w themselves.

ex: everyday there is a question on here about being a light skinned black person and how they are superior. but i don't think these people realize that no matter what dark, light, or in the middle you are all black.

there are so many people doing this and i am just so annoyed, becuase whether you like it or not you are the same and other people don't care. there are small differences, but you are still the same.

i a friend from somalia, who thinks that becuase her tribe is the tribe that is mixed w/ arab that somehow they are better than the rest. but no one cares and to everyone else there are all the same.
why do people insist on making divisions in their own race to show superiority? in the overall scheme of things they are all the same to outside people. so i just don't get why anyone would want to isolate their own people, when other people are already discrimanting against you

I agree, it's the same with Indians.
They also worry about who's fair in complexion and who's dark.
They talk about cast, languages, dressing, religion.
They just make me sick.

like people who are Irish,Scottish,U.S. American. to outside people they all look the same good point. there is a much heard about religious prejudice between Catholics and another religious group. But to an outsider they would all look the same so the outsider would not care.in fact they are the same people essentially.then there are further divisions between religions of similiar roots which to an outsider do not appear there. to an outsider all of them could seem the same a bunch of white people the Catholics,Luthreans,Prodestants, Anglicans, Baptists, all. though it would not appear that way to any of them. to many Mulims in Africa are associated with Al-Qaeda and thought of as terrorists or potential terrorists. also all Muslim men or those in Iran are seen as sexists. maybe the view is wrong but that is how they are seen.so insome minds Africa or the Middle East eqauals sexism. a continent full of sexists is what Africa is seen as or portrayed as in the news.a similiar view could be taken from Africa or the other that people on the American Continent are all the same and are arrogant ,sexist, and lump all people on Africa together as they always have before. nothing has changed now it is just called The Continent With The Civil Wars as opposed to ''The Dark Continent

Hello sister majnoon. I think it is because of the way people are raised. In this white society, the whiter the better. And even when we all are open minded, a lot of people still subconciously prefer white. I mean I like every color I love people no matter what, and I have friends that also are like that but they see other friends of the same group as lower because they are darker. That is the way their family raised them. A lot of girls in Latin America and africa wished they had lighter skin because of the social status, but they deny it. In the other hand I wished that I had darker skin, and hate when girls of the same country of origin which is mexico; look at me with hate because I am light.

if you want to know about racistic blacks, (not only whites are racists), do a research on what they're doing in Afghanistan and Iraq. As for sexism against women, study the texts of hip hop songs.
The oldest form of facism and racism is the Hindu Caste system. There exists also racism between Muslim Arabs and Ajam.
Racism is a result of information deficit because thinking, for some people, is a high achievement sport.

You said it yourself: they want to feel superior. If you feel your larger classification (e.g., African-American) is generally under-valued, then presumably you want to believe you are less under-valued than others. I have heard this all my life about black people, that they are snobbish about skin color even to rather fine distinctions. Alex Haley mentioned it in "Roots." I suppose if I was black, I'd find sense in it, but probably it's because they believe white people find lighter skins more acceptable. Maybe, but what it really comes down to is being treated as an individual. Skin color is just so trivial compared to a person's character, abilities, etc.

in times of slavery, so called owners of the enslaved were in constant fear of rebellion, so they used the rule of divide and conquer by separating the light skinned enslaved from the latter. the dark skinned enslaved were used to work the plantation lands while the lighter skinned enslaved were relocated to the main house where they were told constantly that they were better than their own people because of the so called difference in shades. they were given the masters old cloths and allowed certain freedoms their brothers weren't allowed to have. and i guess this planted mentality was carried through generations of people in one way or another...
