Spotting between periods can occur when you first go on BCPs. Supposedly the spotting subsides as your body gets used to the birth control, but I never wanted to deal with it so I just asked for a higher dose. Spotting while on BCPs can also indicate a missed dose.

If you are not on BCPs, spotting could be a sign of infection, a cyst or polyp in your vagina. It could also be due to added stress if you've been under alot of pressure lately.

As always, best to ask your doctor.

Infection, and hormone disorders such as with the thyroid can sometimes cause spotting to occur. Stress can also do this when someone is stressed about something whether the thing stressed about is good or bad.

I would also recommend getting in touch with your doctor to have the situation evaluated further to see what they think.

Ovulation does. Just the changing of the hormones, mainly.
