I think there are things that circulate all day that we just have to make ourselves numb to.
How do you best go about that?

Numbing myself to external unpleasantness has never been my strong suit. So sometimes I just have to remove myself from the human race and hide for an hour or two (or six) to recharge the batteries.
And sometimes a neat Glenmorangie helps a bit too!

Comfortably numb= Swimming naked in a lake under a full moon in New Hampshire. Laying on the beach in Newport wrapped up in a blanket, watching the stars and listening to the waves. Horseback riding through a stream in the woods, mid-afternoon sunlight playing peek-a-boo in the trees. Rolling around in cool sheets to the sound of thunder.

Chocolate does it for me. And if I feel super stressed and anxious then "Rescue Remedy" takes off the edge.
I would like to numb myself to the dishes in the kitchen sink, the dishes waiting to be unloaded from the dishwasher, unpaid bills and all the chores and tasks that have been a victim of my neglect in the last month.

Well besides listening to Pink Floyd of course, talking with my best friend makes me comfortably numb. When we talk, it always calms my nerves, my worries disappear, and I'm able to relax. Thinking of him helps too, and I've been doing a lot of that lately, so..... :)

Trying to ignore most of the offensive stuff works for me...until something gets through. Then I work at sending it to the trash file of my brain, which used to be more like computer and is now more like an old file drawer.

My family. I know that sounds corny, but when I'm with them, the rest of the world seems lightyears away. I don't have to worry about being good enough, I don't have to be all happy-happy-joy-joy if I'm not. There is absolutely zero pressure. I love that. I'd be lost without it.
