It's a very primitive way of behaving. Insecure people look for others weaknesses and attack them. They see mental illness as a weakness and feel strong by attacking these people. I've worked in Mental Health for 33 years and have very little tolerance for anyone who mistreats or takes advantage of one of my patients.

When someone hears of something they have never experienced or witnessed, they react in a normal way, by casting it out. So when a person hears one of their classmates is depressed, and never fully understands the illness, they will cast that person out. Its a common reaction and there is nothing you can do to change their perspective on this type of situation. Mental illnesses are so common in to days world. For example Depression. Depression is very common and almost everyone will, sometime in their life, experience some type of depression. It could be from a very small form of depression to a very serious form, which can be manic depression. It could last a week or a month or even years. But in the end we all will have some sort of it and it could be caused by different things. For example, losing a loved one, losing a job, getting a divorce, coping with life, stress, and so on. All in all that one student that is coping with depression should not be treated any different then a student that is not coping with depression. We fear the strange and cast it out, when we should except the new with no question about it. This is just my opinion on this subject.

1) Because they haven't been taught that people come in many shapes and forms, both mentally and physically. Education begins at home.

2) Ignorance and fear.

3) Some people, sad to say, just get enjoyment out of doing such a thing, bullies we call them and should not be tollerated.

Could never understand why people do such a thing.

Because it's easy.

I have ADHD, ADD, and bi-polar--on top of my cerebral palsy--and I've been at the center of a lot of abuse growing up.

And I've done the abusing in return at times.

Best thing is to ignor them & you feel a better person!

It's the same reason people act out as bullies. They do not have the courage to attack someone who can fight back against them; they instead seek to take out their aggression on people who are unable to retaliate.

Those kind of people are known by another name -- cowards.

Troll or not, this is a reasonable question. Trolling is bad though.

I think people are scared of what they don't understand and poke fun at the vulnerable.

They are immature Jerks! They need someone vulnerable to pick on! Because no one above their intellect would put up with them!
