What?

If you would have read all the disclosures when you signed for the account you would have never been surprised by all the fees associated with a checking account. The bank does not just give you a folder of papers because they like to print paper work for fun.
Next time read and reread what you are signing up for.

Good question - I can't answer it for sure. If you're only out of the US for a short time (like you went home on vacation, for example), you probably won't have any problems. If you've been gone a fairly long time, then Fifth Third may notify INS or the US State Department, and they may flag your passport.

Do you remember telling Fifth Third that you were not a US citizen? If you didn't, they may not even think of telling the State Dept or INS.

Either way, though, I would contact Fifth Third and work out a repayment agreement.

It IS your fault. You can't get an overdraft even if you ask without spending money that is not in the account. Owing money to a US company will not keep you form entering the US. If anything, it will make it harder to leave next time. Either way, they can sue you in Ireland for what you owe.
