You don't go out and "get" government clearance. This is a process and a background check which is performed by a government agency that evaluates the risk of sensitive materials in your hands. They will investigate any references you may provide and will give you a clearance authorization level depending on your job, the materials your job would require and the sensitivity of the materials you can be exposed to.

I'm just guessing, but I thought you just applied for the job and then if they want to consider you they did the a background check. Apply for a sensitive enough job and the FBI does the check. Join the military you'll get government clearance.
