say your swimming in the deep blue ocean, and you see a shark coming for your feet and gets ready to open its mouth and there's nothing but an island about 50 metres away, what would you do?

I stop moving and prepare to attack, aiming not for the nose, but the gills on the side.

Swimming away from a shark is way too dangerous, as it'll obviously just try to chase you. Make sure you are always with a few other people when you are swimming, and that a life guard's on duty. Don't go too far out in the ocean, try to avoid putting yourself in any situation like this!

I would grab the shark gills since this will scare them away. I would also stay calm so that the shark could not sense my fear. After that, if I had a radio on me than I would contact somebody to rescue me and if I didn't have a radio than I would attempt to swim to the island.

Kick the shark in the nose, then swim un-frantically to the island...

When I went to the ocean, I always swam with a knife on me... You never know...

I would panic. I wouldn't try to swim away because that would make the shark angry. I'd probably just give up. Or stay still.
