I have 97 Honda Accord 6 cyl. Another car backed into the front of my car while I was parked. Their insurance paid for the repairs - cosmetic only.

My a/c is not working - hasn't been working good for a while but now it's completely dead.

My main concern right now is that there is a burning smell coming from the vents. The temp gage is normal - got a new radiator a few months ago.

What could be causing the burning smell?

you may have a problem in the A/C, you may have a leak or no refrigerant, maybe the impact on the front caused a leak in your condenser or on of the lines to and from it. the safest bet is to take it to an A/C shop and have them test it, good luck

Honda's of that year will give off a smell as the clutch is going, then at the same time, you'll notice the clutch slipping as you go up hills. There will be no question in your mind. Those Honda's have a knob that you turn the adjust the cable. It's really simple to adjust, and right on top f the engine. After I replaced my first Honda clutch, i adjusted my clutch cable every 6 months. Can't tell you what the problem is, but a strong guess is that's it's not the clutch. Honda clutches scream for help before they burn out. I should have listened and adjusted the knob, didn't and replaced the clutch. Good Luck, Terry

the first thing you want to do is look under the car at the exhaust pipes to see if a plastic grocery bag or garbage bag got caught under the car and is melting on the exhaust pipes.
9 times out of 10 that's the cause of the 'burning smells'.

other than that, have the engine inspected for oil leaks that could be dripping on to the exhaust. if the radiator is full then the chances of a coolant leak are slight; you could possibly have a leaking heater core but you would also have a wet right side carpet if that were the case.

check for a burning plastic bag on the exhaust first.

hope that helps

We are all flying BLIND, so you should take the car to a Honda dealer ASAP!! It should be free to have them check and find most problems.

After every accident; everyone should always take the car to the dealer, for a full check up! They always find something, to charge the auto body shop. GET IT!!

Auto body shops, do not really fix cars. The really are mostly painter's and farm out, most everything else; often to the cheapest bid or worse a friend..... GET IT

Now that smell.... might be many things.....not all bad or a big deal! But you must act fast!!

Most likely it is rubber burning, but it could be oil. Most likely something is touching the hot engine or exhaust; this often happens, when things are not put back in the right place at the Auto body shop.

So after you have the car dealer repair your car, take the bill back to the Auto body shop. They will bill the insurance company. Most auto-body shops offer a life time warranty on everything they do!!

Worse case your might need a lawyer. To help, in getting your money back!! To help out the lawyer!! Get many written statements from the Honda dealer.

You need written documents, saying the Auto body did not complete nor repair correctly. It would help to get three different Honda dealers to agree.

But in most case......... the auto-body shops and insurance companies will take care of everything.

FYI

All 8 of my Honda's lasted well over 300,000 miles and all got in many accidents. So I have lot of experience at this whole thing.

This car should last you over 300,000 mile and 20 years... GET IT FIXED!! But you must take care of it. Find a good repair shop, out side of the dealer. But, please go to the dealer after any accident.

It depend on what is wrong with the air corn it might be that the bearing seize up and then the fan belt dint "bight" on the pulley of the air corn it's slippy. So the belt turn but the pulley stand still. Otherwise take the car to a auto electrician or take the air corn motor off and then smell if the burning smell is gone. Good luck.
