The problem with a TRUE conspiracy theory is that most people are going to say, "oh... well of course that's true... that's no conspiracy theory at all", and forget that there was a time BEFORE the theory was proven true when people who talked about it were thought to be nut-jobs.

But here's one to get you thinking: Once upon a time a bunch of burglars were discovered breaking into a hotel which housed the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. While SOME people whispered that this was part of a secret conspiracy of wiretapping and intimidation authorized at the highest levels, the president's press secretary denounced such rumors and even mocked the crime as a "third-rate burglary". Most Americans at the time thought the connection was ridiculous.

The name of the hotel and succeeding scandal was WATERGATE.

When you're done thinking about that one, you might want to look into the Operation Mockingbird (CIA influencing media with propaganda), Tuskegee Syphilis Study (public health service purposely infecting and preventing treatment of people), or the Manhattan Project (top scientists secretly gathered to develop super-weapons). All of these one-time conspiracy theories were all proven to be completely and indisputably true.

And that's just for starters! (I agree... some of the stuff that really happens boggles the mind!)

Still, just because some conspiracy theories prove true in the long run, it hardly means they're ALL true. Some of the ones I've heard defy not only logic and plausibility, but the laws of nature as well. Treat a conspiracy theory as you would treat any theory - with equal parts openness (so you can investigate if it's true) and skepticism (so you can investigate if it's false).

The problem I have is a lot of people who believe in such conspiracies believe them to such an extent that if real proof comes out they ignore it. That's when the conspiracy to me dies and loses credibility. It seems like the more I question the conspiracy (I don't feel like I have to question the event, the conspiracy theorist has done that for me) the more a conspiracy falls short, lacks credible evidence, or in some cases outright lies.

This doesn't mean I don't believe in them, there are a few I do believe in, but others I just have yet to see evidence in.

I guess what I'm saying is its all right to question the conspiracy if you don't understand, in fact I encourage you to. Just because you don't trust the government, doesn't mean you can trust someone else's word either.

I believed the first few conspiracy theories I have read , then after reading the umpteenth ones, became thoroughly confused. They should all be called confusiory theories.
They are all like monsters in the closet. You cannot prove they are not true but you can ignore them and just live your life as though you do not know they are there.

conspiracy lies everywhere, the world has become way too complicated, so people who make fun of others because they believe in conspiracies and think outside the box are ignorant
