When I plug something in I have to physically hold on to the outlet because it moves. In our son's room I was able to tighten up the screws that hold the actual plug in the box and it was fixed however I tried it in my kitchen and the plug ended up being flush with the wall itself. Instead of replacing box and repositioning it is there any such thing as spacers or washers I can safely use to bring the plug forward without replacing all?

Yes the Home centers carry different kinds. Get one that goes all the way around (box extension) 1/2 " or 3/4". Plastic ones are sturdy and a little safer. Turn off the power to the box and unscrew the receptacle, feed it through the extension ring and put screws through the holes and screw it all back into the box.
Turn the power back on and you're done (don't forget the cover plate).
Good Luck ! ! !

I usually pull off the cover plate and see how much of a gap there is between the outlet flanges and the box and then turn off the power to the outlet, remove the outlet screws and install washers or plastic spacers that just fit over the screw diameter to fill in the gap and make for a tight fit from the outlet to the box as well as maintaining the proper spacing for the cover plate--may take a little trial and error. The washers or spacers should be available at hardware stores or Home Depot-type stores in the electrical or hardware dept.

yes they do make something just for this application. They have it at home depot and unfortunatly i dont have the bag in front of me to give you the specific name of it. they come in a bag of like a hundered or so. and they are realativly cheap. They are yellow in color and made of a soft plastic. They come in strips of 10 i beileve. Its real easy to do it your self. The first thing you need to do is turn of the breaker to the outlet you are about to work on. Then take the plate off and then undo the screws that hold the outlet to the box. At this point you instal the little spaces. You will see that they have little nipples on one side and holes on the other side this is so that you can stack them as needed. You kind of have to estimate how many you will need to keep the outlet tight to the box but still allow the plate to sit flush on the wall. You might need to add or subtract the amount of spacers needed and they come appart fairly easy. In some cases you might need longer screws to make a nice tight connection with the box and the outlet. The screws used to hold outlets are called 6/32's. and you would probably need like 1 1/2 " ones at most. IM me if you have any other questions Im happy to help.
