Since I've lived next to to my neighbour, (she's 78 now) we have exchanged Christmas and birthday cards, today she gave me a bottle of port as well as the usual card.
I said." Oh thank you, but you shouldn't be spending your money on me!"

She replied, "Don't worry I didn't, I won it on the bingo!"

Wasn't that sweet? lol

btw she really did win it! lol x

To everyone, thanks for the birhday wishes, I thought this incident was amusing as the lady was so honest, no one usuall admits they are handing out recycled presents! lol

Bust up, I would q why you think this was on recently, it only happened yesterday so how could you say I've posted it before, I resent the implication I tell untruths cos I don't!

Bless her, that is very thoughtful. Nothing wrong with passing on presents and good fortune. My sister keeps a cubboard with all the presents in that she and her kids get that they don't like (they are quite fussy) and gives them to people for Christmas and birhdays. We used to laugh at how tight she was, but to be honest, I think its a good idea. Why not pass something on that you aren't going to use, to someone who will. She seems to have the hang of it now, for years she would just pass something on without thought for what she was giving, but now, she saves stuff specifically for certain people. It was funny one year when she gave my mum (her stepmum) for her birthday back the present my mum had given her only five months previously at Christmas. So my mum gave it back to her on her birthday, she got the message then. Your neighbour sounds great. Enjoy the port.

I hear you loud and clear!

I once shared a table with a lady at at a takeaway place. She was frantically searching in her bag for her lipstick. She had had it for years and never went anywhere without it. I told her to calm down , empty her bag, take out its contents one by one and take her time. She was frustrated at being forgetful, and I told her that I was just as forgetful even though I was much younger than her. The bag contents did not reveal the lipstick, and as she stood up in frustration, the lipstick fell to the floor. I smiled and told her, "You see, I knew you would find it!" She was so relieved she hugged me, a total stranger who had done nothing really to help her. I was touched that what for me was a simple thing for her meant a lot, and she did not hesitate to show her joy. Her joy made my day.

What wonderful people our seniors are!

Reminds me of a story years ago, my sweet next door neighbour when i was a kid looked at me and my sis as the kids she couldn't have. Anyway knock on the door one day and she said " i feel that guilty, i have found this(£5.00 note a lot of money back then) on the floor, i feel that guilty for not handing it in, i can't spend it!, so here you are i know you won't have any trouble spending it!"

this is why I play Bingo where I am. there are plenty of nice prizes and besides when a guy wins it drives the " little older ladies " to distraction and up the wall. they take their Bingo so seriously.

Yes it made me smile. So she had a little win, hope you invite her in to share it. She will probably turn it down but I hope not. I have similar neighbours and count myself very lucky indeed they are there when needed and let you get on with it when not

How heartwarming, I got a 93 yrold here, whose shopping I do regularly, and she often pops a couple of quid into my shopping bag,'Just for a treat', how nice is that! BTW if anyone thinks Im takin' advantage, believe me, this lady has a mind of her own(often strongly voiced) and if I didnt take it, she thinks its a personal insult.
