The age for compulsory attendance varies.
However, I can't think of any state that allows you to drop out before 16. Even at 16, most states still require parental consent to drop out.
Many school districts offer alternative high schools that may be better suited to your needs. Speak with your school counselor to see if this is an option for you.

I understand...I was there too.
Most people regret dropping out of school and having to go back and get their GEDs. I almost did because I didn't see the point.
Here are a few facts that may help you make your decision...
1. Dropping out will decrease the range of possible jobs that you can get.
2. There will always be authority figures in your life...It always helps to learn how to get along with them.
3. If school is boring challenge yourself to meet some new goals. Start looking into college courses that you can take while still in high school. This way you can get a jump on a career.
I hated school very much growing up. I pushed through though and I'm glad I did. I was the worst student ever! You'll never guess what my occupation is now...TEACHER.
I wanted to make what I hated better. I am on the other side of the desk trying to help students see the value in education. I'm also trying to not be the teacher that I once hated.
I'm sure you are a smart young lady. You can do it. If at all possible try not to make a decision that you may regret later in life.
Just as a side note...your life has a purpose.
Take care.

Thankfully you cannot quit school before then. Why would you want to? Are you going to be a quitter for the rest of your life? You are always going to have to be under someone else's authority, unless you plan on creating and running your own company-which is not likely to happen if you quit school. It isn't so bad and there will come a day when you will actually miss it. Stick with it, finish strong and take a shot at a better future!

God, how awful it must be to be 14 or 15 and realize that you are smarter than your teachers and everyone else around you! To make things even worse you are probably as smart now as you'll ever be and face many years of declining mental ability. Oh, the pain of it all!
Incidentally, sentences begin with capital letters, the letter "i" when referring to yourself is always capitalized as in "I", the word "of" as in "fed up of teachers" is not correctly used, there is no space between the last letter of a sentence and the question mark ( "before 16 ?"), "and that telling me" makes no sense, "whats" as in "whats the piont [sic]" should be "what's" since it is a contraction of "what is" (same for its), the word point is spelled wrong, and there should be a period after the word boring.
Have a nice life. May I suggest a career in gas pumping in Oregon? High school dropouts are always welcome.

How do you know that the things that you learn in school aren't going to help in later life. You think that you know it all - well you don't. You leave school befor 16, if you wish but you will end up in a dead end job or in the benefits system. Just grow up and keep your head down.

No you can't quit. Don't quit school because you will regret it for the rest of your life. In this age you need a college education to have a high standard of living most of the time. If you quit high school there will only be low paying jobs for you. Don't ruin your life.

Grow up and do your work. Otherwise, you're doomed to being a hourly-wage slave. School isn't supposed to be fun, it's supposed to give you a basic education so that you have options in the future, like if you want to continue school and go to college, join the military, or join the workforce. You aren't going to go anywhere without a high school education. and since you're asking if you can drop out before 16, you haven't even really started it. If you quit now, all you're doing is simultaneously giving yourself short-term happiness and shooting yourself in the foot.
P.S. Chavs quit school and do nothing with their lives. If you say you aren't one, prove it.

well if you want to clean stains from a toilet bowl or clean up vomit, then go ahead. That's the only sort of job you will get if you leave school. Just keep your head down and your mouth shut, get your work done as best you can and it will be over b4 you know it (trust me, I was the same as you at this age and now I make parts for airplanes).

Funny how between the ages of 13 - 21 we know EVERYTHING. School teaches you a variety of subjects so that you can be prepared for whatever it is you choose to do with your life. I can testify that not everything i learned in school is useful to me but some things were suprisingly useful (like proportions).
