I heard the Moon landings are fake. Why did Nasa build an orbiting Space Station and not build one on the Moon?

The "War on Terror" is costing the US billions, & is not making the world any safer. Why cant that money be spent on a Space station on the Moon to benefit all mankind?

To begin with, the landing on the moon was not faked. This is just a conspiracy theory that people came up with.

Essentially though, it is a logistics issue. Building a free floating platform only hours from the planet that can be easily monitored is much simpler than building a more permanent station on the moon. A moon base would involve many complex and expensive systems to sustain a crew up there. This is in addition to the fact that travel time from launch to the moon is approximately 3 days, so any problems or concerns would take longer to resolve.

An orbital space station is also far more useful to humanity at the moment than a moon base. The international Space Station can be used for space shuttle and satellite repairs, refueling, near Earth observation, and a staging point from which to launch various other missions. A base on the moon, though within our realm of possibility, would not really serve us any other purpose than to just exist. In time, the logistics and reasoning for us to build one may come into play as we explore and travel deeper into space, but as for now, it really just isn't necessary.

I assure you that the Moon landings were completely real. This isn't my opinion; it's a scientific fact. The conspiracy theory is based completely upon bad science and faulty common sense.

We don't have to take the government's word for it. Consider the following:
1) Apollo 11 left a retroreflector that astronomers have detected thousands of times. It's used to precisely measure the distance to the Moon.
2) Independent radio telescopes, when pointed at the Moon, were able to detect the Apollo transmissions. If there hadn't been a ship on the Moon, they wouldn't have heard anything.
3) The Moon rocks have been examined in detail by geologists, who have positively identified the rocks as being of lunar origin. They explain that there's no way for NASA to falsify this.
4) No scientist rejects the landings. If there was something fishy about the Moon landings, would it not be scientists who would realize it? Instead, scientists are the first to vigorously defend the landings.

Evidence just can't get any more incontrovertible than this. To reject this evidence is to reject all modern science.

So why haven't we returned? Ever since NASA's budget was slashed after Apollo 11, it has been forced to reevaluate its priorities. Instead of designing spacecraft that could land on the Moon, it focused on improving its ability to send people (and payloads) into Earth orbit. It also put a lot more emphasis on unmanned missions. It's not as though NASA has tried and failed to land people on the Moon. Its current budget simply doesn't allow for manned lunar exploration.

We did go to the moon on the apollo mission. Do you know why we went? It was a race to the moon. And nobody was interested in it until we had a problem with Apollo 13. After we won the race people lost interest again so we couldnt get the funding to go back. However Nasa plans to return in 2014 on an old style apollo rocket to start a base on the moon.

Bids are in to NASA on developing the rockets and spacecraft that *will* get the US back to the moon. The work will commence later this year, and the US is scheduled to get back to the moon by the mid-2010s.

That's real money being spent, now, to go back to the moon!

The old professor says: Having worked with and known several "moon walkers" I have confidence that they were indeed on the moon. Having analysed the rocks they returned, we can attest to the fact that they are not terrestrial and fit all the criteria that theory has proposed they be for lunar material.

As to answer the other part of your question...in one word....MONEY

Are you going to paid for it? Right now, the US government is giving almost no money for these purposes. Other countries like China and Africa are working on reaching the space big time. But, we need to keep spending money on the never-ending war. Too bad.
