All of them deserve an asterick..

You're asking under an "if" and I don't know I agree Bonds deserves, or needs, an asterisk to clarify his achievement. Personally, I find it sad that someone so great might have taken such drastic and underhanded measures to increase that greatness, but he is by no means the only one... just the most notable... and it is irrelevant what race he is.

Anyone who is found to have achieved a record with evidence showing it was achieved through performance enhancing substances banned by law and league rules, deserves whatever they get in the court of public opinion.

Bonds has four things against him that the others in your list don't.

1) he admitted to using "The Clear", and denied knowing what it was. Ridiculous. This is a steroid/hgh.

2) he is linked directly to the person and company (Balco) that has been found to manufacture and distribute steroids/hgh.

3) with the above track record, he is about to break the most hallowed record in all of sports. This presents a problem, especially for fans of the game (of ANY color as long as they are objective) when the trail of evidence makes it abundantly "Clear" (pun intended) that he has achieved this greatness through artificial and illegal means.

4) He's been a jackass since day one. Long before this controversy started.

McGwire? I agree, he's probably as guilty as Bonds, though for a shorter period. Problem is, he never admitted anything of the sort, was never linked to a steroid mfg. company, and broke a lesser record. Also, he was always personable, so the media isn't looking for a reason to rip him a new one. I notice you don't put Sosa in there, I guess because he's not white? You seem to have issues.

Giambi? This guy is a class a Tool. He deserves as much derision as Bonds, if not more, except that it would give him more publicity than his lesser career deserves, which is why he writes these incriminating books in the first place. He is a loser, due to lack of character.

Lance? You can't be serious. Dude has never been found to have done anything wrong, has been tested more thoroughly than the oldest of lab rats, and showed clean. If that weren't the case, I'd have a problem with him too, regardless of race. As of yet, there is no reason to doubt him short of the accomplishments themselves.

There is plenty of racism in our world (not just our country) today. Trumping it up and fabricating issues where the real issues are not related to race only waters down the reality that there are problems with racial relations in today's world, and does a disservice to progressing away from such antiquated views. Acting like this while asking this question in that way only stagnates our progress. Good luck seeing the forest through the trees.

Why does race always have to be worked into this. I don't care if the person is black, white, green, or blue they are still a cheater and deserve an asterisk. The only reason people are jumping on bonds is because he is trying to break the record.

What is this asterisk everyone is talking about? I have never seen one in any of the baseball record books I have seen. The record is a record - plain and simple. Regardless of whether any of them took steroids, HGH, amphetamines or even children's Tylenol, their records will stand. I despise the fact that Bonds will hold the record but I am smart enough to know that the record book is nothing more then numbers. There is no room for interpretation. 756 homers is more then 755. My dislike for Bonds has nothing to do with the fact that he is black. it has everything to do with the fact that he is a self-centered jerk who attempts to portray himself as a victim of the media. Wake up - without the media, there is no way he would be making millions of dollars for whacking a ball with a stick. Not everything is about race, but too often it is made that by people on both sides of an issue. I have to wonder if you would be asking the same questions if McGwire was on the verge of breaking this record, or if you would be one of those people lining up to put this fictional asterisk next to his name. My guess would be that you'd be lining up to smack him down just like everyone else.
I think that you sound like an intelligent person - don't let yourself get caught up in trying to make every single bad thing that happens to someone a racial issue. There are people out there who are jerks, and believe me, they come in all colors.

None deserve an asterisk. They all need to be banned from sports and not given any reconigition.
As far as Lance is concerned he was tested almost daily for drugs and never tested positive over several years.
I only wish USA baseball were like European cycling. In the Tour De France, a rider ,who never tested positive but missed two scheduled tests, was dropped from his team for lying about his were abouts, another blood doped and was kicked off the tour, another used steroids and was asked to leave the tour. All these people will be banned from the sport and will forfeit their salaries this year.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if our USA Sport Associations could follow in the footsteps of cycling?

it extremely is using fact he's interior the limelight using checklist. there replaced into a good number of controversy approximately steroids while McGuire and Sosa the place going for the seasonal HR checklist some years back. Bonds appropriate character would not help the two.

There must be a more appropriate forum in which to work out your issues, because you aren't really interested in baseball.

I don't support asterisking anything to do with baseball statistics. Mainly because it is pointless, somewhat because it is disrespectful in many ways, and finally because the original asterisk story is only a myth (one that is long overdue to die) and my love of the game has no place for idiotic fairy tales.

Any athlete, regardless of race or gender, deserves an *asterisk" after their stats if they used performance enhancing drugs at any time.

Show me a failed drug test on anyone and they should be taken out of the record books. Forget the asteriks. I could care less if they're black, white, asian, haitian, or puerto rican, if you cheat you don't deserve any of that!

If they broke the most important record in Baseball than yea, of course. It has nothing to do with race, he doesn't deserve it because of steroid use, thats it.
