when multiplying positives and negatives remember two things:

1. Negatives are like socks....when they come in pairs its a good thing (positive)

2. Always determine the sign of your answer and write it down first (before you actually think about the numbers you are multiplying together)

Using these rules, you can answer any question with any list of numbers being multiplied together.

Example: (-3)(4)(-1)(-2)(1)(-2) since there are four socks (negatives) the answer is positive. Then just multiply the numbers!

tip (multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers)
1. Determine the sign (+) or (-) of the products or divisions
2. Multiply or divide the numbers without the sign.

How to determine the sign of a division and/or product:
1. Count how many negative numbers.
2. If the count is odd, the sign is negative (-)
If the count is even, the sign is positive (+)

Example:
(-5)(4)(3)(-2)(-15) = ?

1. Determine the sign:
there are three (3) negative numbers, so the sign is (-)
2. Do the regular mulitplication/division:
5*4*3*2*15 = 1800
3. Final result: - 1800

This may help you. When you have a:

NEGATIVE * NEGATIVE = POSITIVE
NEGATIVE * POSITIVE = NEGATIVE
POSITIVE * POSITIVE = POSITIVE
POSITIVE * NEGATIVE = NEGATIVE

Same for division.
so, -49/-7= 7
