I'm looking for a roommate, but I'm not sure how I'll find living with someone I don't know. If you have a roommate, could you give me some pointers on how to deal with roommates and tell me your roommate experience? Thanks. =)

Simple, Respect and Compromise. I had a roommate for 10 years during college and we never fought over anything. We each had our own rooms that we were responsible for cleaning weekly. However, we were responsible for our own messes. If we shared meals whomever did not cook would take care of the dishes. We planned meals and did our shopping together which made it possible to have a communal refrigerator. There was no "your food and my food" we shared equally. As for dating and having company, we agreed that no one would stay the night. We could stay where ever we wanted, but sleepover guests made for an uncomfortable situation. Anyhow, hope this helps. We are both married with children and live hundreds of miles away, yet we are still very close. It is possible to have a roommate and get along. Good luck

I used to live with three guys that I knew pretty well.I couldn't stand it! They didn't know how to p/u after themselves, ate all my food, and only cleaned when they had friends/family coming to visit.

Now i live with two guys and 1 girl.It is working out much better. The girl i live with is one of my best friends. One of the guys is her bf and the other guy is a random person we found on craigs list.We all take turns picking up after eachother. And we respect eachother's space.

Oh and at my old place i would be watching tv and the guys would walk up and take the remote and turn the channel. At my new place if you are watching tv first ,the remote is yours until you turn it over-which works out fine bc were not all trying to watch tv at the same time.

Everyone is different and has their own good and bad habits. If you are accepting money from someone, you also accept the quirks that come with them. You need to sit and write down what the things are you don't want. Things such as visitors at certain hours, phone calls, cleaning up after themselves etc. Do you have more than one bathroom? Need scheduling if not. If you have friends that also have roomates, ask what they have done.

The WORST thing I ever did was get a roommate. we were friends before and now...NOT. My roommate, NEVER picked up anything around the house, ended up steeling over $1000 worth of stuff, (jewelry, cash, clothes, other possessions,etc...)

Be nice, stay in your room, and lock up you food.
