The sounds of silence are what we hear when we are truly at peace with ourselves.
There is a spot at a river near my house (within 5 miles of the ocean), where I sometimes can hear the sound of the tide rising or falling. Sometimes while I'm there the moon sings softly to me.
Once I heard the sun set.

Silence is only a point at which your ears can no longer pick up the frequency of the sound around. Silence does not exist in the physical universe.
Sound is a constant phenomena.

I once lived in a small town in the Texas Panhandle and I would go out and hunt for native artifacts like arrowheads and one day I was walking and realized that I had covered alot of ground that day. I stopped to sit and take a drink from my canteen when I noticed, as I looked around, that I couldn't see a road, telephone pole, fence line, hear a train or anything man made. I began to try to listen for a familiar sound and there was none. Not even the buffalo grass swishing in the breeze. There wasn't even any breeze. No insects buzzing or cows calling out. I strained to hear something but there was only the silence of my thoughts and that day became one of the most peaceful moments of my life.

When you're alone first you hear the FREEZING sound of silence and your body gets cold, after a seconds without waiting the PASSION sound comes and you don't feel a fear of the HORROR sound of silence.
Don't forget that when you hear them you relax because you don't listen the screamming voices or childrens crying.
You relax in the silence!

it is used often to refer to when a shocking thing has happened, and the expected noise or sound isnt there, though of course there is still some sound, this is epecially true when people think they should be speaking, but are to shocked to, there is a quiet pause as they just look at each other,
so i think its not really a "sound of silence" but a "sound of a particular silence"

Sound is a interpretation made inside your brain of waves traveling in the air and captured by your inner ear system... there is no sound of silence... silence is by definition the lack of perceptible sound(waves)! like the common proverb/question "does a falling tree make noise when there is no one there to hear it?" The answer is no... it creates waves in the atmosphere...sound is the interpretation of the brain...

It's the sense of stillness when you can hear your own breathing and your heartbeat. There will never be complete silence, but those sounds are the most relaxing of all, when you know that all is quiet.

Silence does not have a sound, and itself does not exist; it is the absence of all sound.

Crickets chirping has always been associated as "bad" silence from a crowd.
