The 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons were an experiment by John Ziegler to play 'neutral site' games.
Each team played 40 home games and 40 road games, followed by 2 home neutral site games and 2 road neutral site games.
The idea was to generate interest in other cities. Places like Halifax, Hamilton, Saskatoon, Columbus, etc all hosted a few games.
During the 1994-95 strike season, the first games to be axed from the schedule were the neutral site games. In 1995-96, these games were a thing of the past.

Yes, all teams had an 84 game schedule, with two of each teams games being played in non-NHL cities.
I think some players played 85 or 86 games in those seasons as well.

That just meant he played a full schedule. The league got the nhlpa to agree to have each team play 2 neutral site games (for a total of 84) as a means to promote the growth of the sport in non-NHL cities.
The strategy was abandoned in the subsequent CBA which followed the '94 lockout.

Seeing how he played his entire career in Detroit, you got me there. Could be a typo on behalf of yahoo.
But this is possible though. I remember hearing a player (name, teams, and years are eluding me right now) who played over 82 games in a season. What happened was, he got traded to a team who had played a lesser number of games. He played the full season without being scratched or injured so his final number of games played was 84 or 86 or something like that.

He was able to play 84 games in a season with the same team was because there were more games in a single season in previous years.
Those two seasons were pretty much experimental and there were 84 games played in each

They had an 84 game schedule as an experiment and decided 82 was best, I'm probably the 100th person to say this, but I didn't look first lol.
