Well, if you are breastfeeding you are supposed to continue your prenatals anyway!

Plus, they recommend taking prenatals while you are trying to conceive in order to get your body in it's best possible health.

Having your kids so close together is hard on your body. It takes a lot out of you (vitamin wise) to grow a baby and you really need to focus on replenishing your system if you plan to conceive again so soon! I know this from experience because we spaced our children 19 months apart (which obviously means I was pregnant 10 months after giving birth) :)

There have been studies done that show that the mother's body is so depleted after childbirth that if she gets pregnant again within 2 years after giving birth, that she is not really giving all that she could and should be to the next fetus for its best development. Your doctor probably wants you to store up as much as you can if you are planning to get pregnant again so soon. The thing that suffers the most is both the mother's and the fetus's bones and teeth. Also, they have found that the second child born so soon after the first is not as intelligent as a second child whose mother waits to get herself back into shape so-to-speak. And I don't mean being able to wear her bikini again. Wait to replenish yourself before having another child. Also, give your first child a chance for some undivided attention from its parents. It will have the chance to learn more. It is hard to be chasing a toddler while breastfeeding or changing a diaper. What's the rush? Try enjoying the first one for a while before you take on #2.

If you are trying to conceive, prenatal vitamins are important for you, especially since we all don't get a healthy diet all the time. Also, if you are breastfeeding, your doctor will tell you to stay on the prenatals to make sure the baby is getting the vitamins she needs.

I'm studying to be a pediatric nurse, and I could make a couple of guesses for you. I think you would be better served by finding out for yourself. When I was a young mom, I pretty much did whatever the doctors said without many questions.

As a parent (and young adult), you need to take control of situations. The best question to ask is, "Why?" Why do I need to take this? etc.

You can do this!

So you can be healthy. There's no need to wait until you conceive to begin getting healthy and ready for another baby. And since you are going to try to space them so closely together, you will need those vitamins to get back into shape (I'm not even talking about weight here) before you become pregnant again.

Good luck!

Studies have shown that women are more likely to concieve, and to have a healthy pregnancy, if they are eating a well-balanced diet and supplementing with a good multi-vitamin or prenatal vitamin, esp. ones that are high in folic acid.

because even when you just have a baby, your body is still in shock, and the baby took so much of your nutrients that they recommend you take your prenatals for at least a year, to replenish your body.

I assume you are pregnant already? Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to have another one in 6 or 7 months. In which case, you should definitely stay on your prenatals.
