Trying to build a frame.

Starting point ... nail board up into a existing post.

Drill holes at the right angle first. Use a bit that's smaller than your nails. The nail will follow the hole, and be less likely to split the wood. Are you sure you don't want to use drywall or deck screws? They hold better and you can take things apart easy if you need to. A pre-drill bit for a screw should be no larger than the shaft the threads stick out from.

I*m not sure about the question but if you are asking How to nail at an angle, you do not drive the nail straing in (leve) you tilt it downward and nail it in that way. Hope this is clear enough for you.
