Hehehehe! Has he not seen programmes on TV where they show women in labour?!
My partner and I are expecting our first baby in 3 weeks, and we're both very excited!
The other day, without even being prompted, I might add, he turned to me and said "I love you, I'm so proud of you. If I could do this for you I would!" I thought it was really cute-and then asked him what he was after!
It was really nice and made me feel that even though he can't possibly understand how I feel as it's not him going through it, he actually really does care!
I could see he was being honest though-it was a really lovely moment!
But "shelling peas?!" THROTTLE AWAY, lol!!

Men should have to go through the same thing.
But then, they wouldn't be men anymore would they?
Seriously, I think you are asymmetrically generalizing. Not all men pass it off so easily. I would compare it to seriously amplified constipation or periodic sustained blow to the testicles. I am sure some women will find a way to knock my answer though. But then, there is no frame of reference for her knowing what a blow to the testicles feels like; at that point she would cease to be a woman...

I know for most men at the first sign of a contraction we would probably want to commit suicide. lol ...................I have been told that the pain that women go through is similar to the pain I went through when I had my gall bladder attacks because of stones. It is probably worse than that, I imagine. Any man who cannot appreciate what a women goes through in child birth is only fooling himself. I imagine it like trying to crap out a bowling ball through that small opening.

not all men are like that, me and my husband just found out that were having a baby and he is over the moon to be a first time dad, he respects what i have to go through and he cares sooo much for me and the baby,
My advice is to put him in his place and make him wake to the fact that it's hard work and he plays a part as much as you do, obviously he is immature about the facts of life and never attended sex education at school.
He will wake up one day, watever he wakes up to the fact I'm sure you'll enjoy, trust me god pays his debts without money. lol

I think men that don't recognize the awesome power involved in creating another life are in denial because it's hard to accept that a woman has greater tolerance for pain and can do something that they can't.
Eatmyhat, you must have a huge tolerance for pain just for putting up with him.

But what about the time before the birth when you just sit at home not working. And afterwards. I only got two weeks off work when my wife gave birth. Wish I could sit at home watching daytime television and doing phone in quizzes. Worth it for a bit of temperory pain if you ask me.

i think i would smack a man for saying that. it makes me feel great when my fiance brags how i didn't cry through the whole thing and how it just looked painful and he was proud. how could he say what it's jus tlike if he's never done it. tell him to shhit out a watermellon if it's just like shelling peas. FOR most men it's harder than shelling peas just to watch. my fiance was too chiken to cut teh cord for god sake so my step mom did it lol

My man was totally supportive when i gave birth to our daughter, he was worried that i would be in pain and was worried he could not help...luckily her birth was a doddle...
i think many me say it because it gets a reaction..just smile and go and buy a water melon...when he asks what its for just smile and say that you will shove it up his butt to show him how painful labor is

Most men realize what a challenge and a sacrifice it is.
There are a few, like the one you describe, who persist in living in denial.
Maybe your husband will get kidney stones one day and experience some real pain for himself.
