First you have to throw out the nastiest, then you boil them for an a half hour, too kill any roach eggs in the rock, then you scrub them. Now you are going to have to be careful. Most river rocks are OK, but Limestone and any Mineral stone will leak into the water.Limestone is a common stone and most know what it is, but don't put it in unless you have fish like guppies that like high mineral water or shrimp, crabs, and crayfish. For soft water use sedimentary rocks only. Rocks that are in layers. This stones have no minerals.

First, boil the rocks, it really doesn't matter how long they are boiled, boiling is boiling. 5 minutes is good enough. Salt in the water also helps to kill anything that wasn't killed by the heat. Certain rocks will affect the pH of water. Rocks that contain a high calcium content (like limestone) will cause the pH to rise. These rocks (if boiled and salted) will not lead to infections. Never use regular glue on aquarium decorations, they contain chemicals that are toxic to fish. The best thing to do would be to use aquarium grade silicon gel. They will be fine in the tank, I would recommend rinsing them off first. I have done this same thing before, with no bad effects. Now be careful with the glue, I would go to the pet store and get a glue that is made for aquariums, you don't want something toxic to your fish. Pet stores usually sell a safe waterproof glue to fix tanks or do other stuff that will be perfect for your project.

yes you can...boil them for at least 20 minutes in salted water to remove any bacteria. NEVER use hot glue on anything you put in your aquarium. If you must glue them together, use an aquarium approved silicon gel. It is what is used to hold teh glass sides together. Buy it from a pet store and not Walmart or a harware store!!

Boiling could be a reliable first step. Wash it off and brush it down particularly totally. do no longer Use cleansing soap! particularly I propose bleaching it besides -counting on the sort of rock. Then boil it back to rinse off the bleach. ultimately- placed it in water with a reliable dechlorinator. final yet no longer least- enable the rock dry out totally. this could help end off any mildew or fungus. Hair dryers help. this could neutralize any chemical substances from the backyard, acid rain, birds, insect residue, and kill off any backyard snails, ants, slugs, pill insects, pretend ladybugs, millipedes.... which may be living in the rock and unstable to the fish. If the rock is granite, agate, or any 'tense' rock- you will be advantageous to function it to the aquarium. If the rock is limestone, chalk, lava rock, sandstone- or different delicate rocks; i do no longer propose including it to water. because of the fact the rock dissolves by means of the years it is going to do particularly wonky issues to the water PH ranges. you will come across this out via dropping vinegar on the rock- if it fizzes, do no longer placed it in the aquarium. reliable luck with this~

yes use them but clean them with hot water first, DON'T hot glue them this can poison the water for fish, use Marine Silicone or aquarium safe silicone to stick them together.
Be patient with silicone as a takes a long time to dry.

I wouldn't glue them together. Before you put them in your tank, put them in a pot of boiling water for at least 5 minutes to kill all the germs, then let them cool off completely. They should be fine. :-)
contrary to what others might suggest, DO NOT USE BLEACH - it leaves a dangerous residue. Boil them in water.

Clean them really well first, with a dilute bleach solution and then rinse them really really good. I don't know what is in hot glue but it might leach out into the water, so I probably wouldn't use it.
