You mean when hanging was common....
I'll bet more than a few did. Back then, tolerance was very low for many crimes. Bad mouthing the King or even not repaying a loan was subject to possible death!
Hanging is still used but more common in the third world countries.

In ancient times there was a law that required that anyone who built a house that collapsed got the death penalty,or maybe only if somebody died

Didn't the inventor of the guillotine get beheaded by his own devise? I imagine some people did die by their own creations if they were found guilty by the law of the region.
