I remember my English teacher at high school, many moons ago. His name was Jake Thackrey and he left teaching to become a singer/song writer. He was quite successful and made albums and sang live on an Esther Ranzen show - can't remember the name of the programme but it was a consumer type show on BBC 1. Jake died a few years ago and he has quite a cult following in the UK. A play was produced, based on some of his songs and sketches and I saw it at the City Varieties in Leeds about 3 years ago - very funny. Mr Thackray was an inspirational teacher and inculcated a love of the written word in me and that has stayed with me always. RIP Jake.

well we dont have kinder garden over here in the UK but we have infant school. i had a lovely teacher called Miss Bell. she was every ones favourite teacher. she was so pretty and had really long, blonde hair. she made up the best games and and everyone would sit for hours listening to her amazing stories. Tragically she passed away at a very young age. i was so sudden and she left a big hole in the spirit of the school that was never filled.

I was going to ask this today lol funny how things work out sometimes.
I recently sent my mom an email asking if she still had my old band director's email addy. According to my mother my former band director has left his position at my former high school. He made a big impression on me. I still think about him often . . . and sometimes I miss talking music with somebody and not having to explain everything to them . . . and I quote him . . . and maybe, just maybe, I've taken on some of his mannerisms . . .
I am sooooooo sad . . .
The last I knew he was going through a divorce (with two kids).
Here is the email I sent her after I found out:
--------------------
How terribly sad! He will be missed, I am sure. His life was really heading downhill fast at the end there . . . right around the time of his divorce. It showed. He started coming to school less, he was irritable . . . there were plenty of signs. I am certain that the music programs will never be the same. I still think about him a lot, like I said. I hope things work out for him.
-----------------------
I really wish him the best . . . I hope he finds whatever it is he's looking for in the world.
If any of you are of the praying sort, I'd appreciate a short mention of him (Don Rose) in your prayers.
Thank you.

I really remember my gr. 1 teacher. She taught us everything and she was a colourful beautiful teacher. She was incredible nice. The clothes she wore always really poped.
Then i remember gr.7 teacher. Taught us most of our subjects and she was kind of old not as pretty but still really nice. I probably learn't more in her class than any other. She was really nice. I remember she'd let us stay in at recess if we had to catch up on anything or to clean our desk, even if we just wanted to stay in. She's amazing.

I thought I was on the UK only part of Yahoo Answers. However, I remember Mr Frost, our Maths teacher in the first year at High School because he didn't get cross and he was nice and laughed.

Mr Mason,Brookfield Primary.
Each time he took assembly it would be the same hymn ,'when a knight won his spurs',followed by the same story about a boy and his dog.We all knew the story well, but he was such a good storyteller,we were always entranced,by his Welsh accent.
Mr Burridge,St Martins
Crazy maths teacher, one day he decided to take us girls outside for a game of football, instead of doing algerba....

I remember a lot of my teachers but my 10th grade English teacher has always stood out the most to me. He was hard but he was always so encouraging and he pushed us to be the best! He was an amazing teacher!

Well this is an easy one for me actually. I remember my sixth grade teacher the best....she was mean as all get out...but its because she actually cared about us getting an education. Part of me knew that back then (38 now) but I know it even moreso now as I see her at least once a week with her grandkids at the pool.
Its so funny to sit and talk to her about grownup things, because to me, she'll ALWAYS be mean Miss Carter.....
She lectured me about boys once...and what she told me was soooo true....there'll be a million and one before you find the RIGHT one...and even then, you'll ask yourself.....what am I doing????
