Lust is very powerful because it is actually a physical urge. This is why it is very difficult to control as you cannot reason with it. When you feel lust, you can try grounding yourself or breathing deeply. The difference with love is that with love you really care about the other person while with lust you are simply attracted to them physically like a super strong magnet. If you really try to control it, it should become easier to control with time. Also, if it becomes overpowering, then get away from the object of your lust. This should make it easier to bear.

species that do not reproduce do not last long, so the strongest urge in any species is to reproduce. Most higher animals have the luxury of being "in heat" for only a part of the year. Humans are interested in sex all year long. We have developed means, like religion and families, to try to minimize the acting out of our genetic desire to pass on our genes to a new generation, but it works better for some than others. You can't keep it "locked up," you need to find some relatively harmless way to let it out, like masturbation, athletic competition, strenuous exercise or other distractions that work for you. Cold showers work for some.

why try to keep it locked up...so much more fun to go with the flow...the rush is amazing...i have a long term partner and i lust after him constantly...and he loves it

Lust is the selfish form of Love. If you really care about their welfare and happiness, it is much easier to control. Also, one avoids the situation where one looses control.

it makes your brain crazy..and all reasonable thinking is out of the window..until you have your conquest. you regret it afterwards..if its something you shouldnt have done - but its fun at the time!! nothing wrong with lust!!
