How would you propose we fix those problems. BTW, you're not going to get rid of teacher's unions so take that off the list, it just won't happen. Try to be non-reactionary and be practical and thoughtful with your answer. With healthcare, there are less and less people covered today. And, insurance corporations are refusing care to many people who do pay into private health insurance accounts. How do we fix these problems? What would be your solution?

Scott B..... most of the working population in America does not have health coverage. and, many of the working Americans who do have it are being denied care because of the decisions of the Insurance corporations. Americans aren't lazy. And, anyone from anyother part of the world living in America will tell you that.

Ethan M.... I'm not telling you how to answer the question. I just said lay off the teacher's union rants because they aren't going away. That's reality. I want to get beyond the typical ranting by some people and get to more positive solutions.

Edit Ethan M.... BTW, you're not even close to my opinion as to what we should do.

Dekardkain hit the nail on the head. Doctors are going out of business because of lawsuits.

Regarding uninsured working Americans. At my last company we offered everyone insurance, and the employee share was a lousy $30 per month. This was top of the line BC/BS 80/20 insurance with a $250 deductible. Most of the people under 30 declined the insurance because it was too expensive and they figured they wouldn't need it. When one person got sick the just went to the ER and skipped out on the bill.

Education? My kid goes to a charter school where the teachers and parents actually talk. My daughter scored in the top 95% in reading and 90% in math on the Terra Nova tests. How to improve education? Have parents get involved. Since you cannot regulate that, some kids will get a useless education.

two entreily different issues with very different fixes. in texas, we should accept public school system as a failed endevour and quit throwing stupid money at it. the system graduates about half of its product. everyone knows its a failed institution and not working but the "educators" are a very powerful beuracracy with powerful lobbyists. not only that but so many of us cannot imagine a world without a public school system. so i want to maintain the public school system in some form with more emphasis on meaningful vocational ed classes so the potential drop outs can aqcuire meaningful skills. i would also consider some version of the old voucher program where the college level poor kids could get a good foundation. i would focus on the 3 R's and get the political/religous indotrination OUT of the material. and some other stuff but you get the idea.

health care. like it or hate it, it has to be dealt with! medi care/caide are the bankrupters in the federal budget. any plan for universal care is still gonna be expensive though. i would use current insurance providers to issue health insurance. everybody pays in which drops the cost of the insurance. those that cant pay, oh boy....feds gotta pay the cost.

regardless of the detalis, the main thing is to get the powerful lobbyists out of the loop, which goes back to campaign finance reform, and do something....it can be done though...

the main point is, we have to address it in a meaningful HONEST way......

Education is not really a problem since all the concerned parents are either homeschooling or have their kids in private school - otherwise, the only way would be to get rid of the NEA and get the gov't out. And yes, it can happen.

I choose to not be a part of what you call 'healthcare'. Doctors just make people sicker.

If we got Tort reform rolling, capped the money people could snag with frivolous lawsuits, and thus lowered the operating costs of Doctors and Hospitals by almost half, that would be a hell of a start. Why is it that everyone wants to deal with the symptoms, and not the disease? The system isn't broken because of the system, but because of what we've allowed to happen to it.

Skyrocketing medical costs can be directly attributed to the rising cost of doing business in the medical industry due to 2 major factors.

1. Out of control lawsuits accounting for billions of dollars the medical industry hemorrhages every year, as well as the ever-rising cost of malpractice insurance to protect against these lawsuits.

2. Subsidizing government programs that don't pay out enough to compensate these doctors and hospitals for the costs they incur. On average, government health programs such as Medicare pay out 1 dollar for every 3 that private insurances pay for the same procedure. In order to make up the difference, the doctor or hospital has to charge more to everyone else, because the government sets caps on what they can charge them.

It's government's interference, and frivolous lawsuits that are the problem, fix those, and you fix the system.

As far as education, the mere fact that you don't even question the necessity for teacher's unions shows how indoctrinated you are. They are bastions of continued mediocrity, and do nothing but protect bad teachers at the expense of our students. Why else do private schools (who on average have half the funding of public schools) beat them in every measurable arena?

Stop spending money on the Iraq war and subsadized farmers, while increasing taxes on the super rich, and start spending money on education to higher more (and better) teachers in the areas that need them and on providing health insurance for the poor and uninsured in the US

Education? Pass classes or be forced to go to military school. Health Care? Get a job, stop looking for handouts, there would then be more government money for children and those with disabilities. In other words, people should take personal responsibility and not expect the government to "fix" our problems with ludicrous suggestions like "universal health care".
IN RESPONSE TO YOUR ADDENDUM: Your nuts, NO ONE is denied health care and many Americans are indeed lazy because of ridiculous liberals like you wanting to give them something for nothing. Grow up!

Well you ask a question and then tell us how to answer it so really what you are saying is tell me what I want to here, so here you go. Elect Hillary Clinton, Turn our Military over to the UN, enact complete socialism, throw away the Constitution and surrender you guns on the way out. Am I getting close?
