My horse has had a strange, circle shaped indent on her right shoulder since I got her about 6 months ago.
I havent seen it get larger, or really cause an issue. I figured it was an old injury.
About a week agoI noticed that in the same spot, but on the other shoulder a smaller circle indent like the other seems to be developing.
The vet came out to check her and didnt say anything about it.
I was just wondering if anyone has seen this before.
Is it just the shape of her muscle or do I need to get the vet back out.

My saddle fits fine.
Its on her shoulder above her forearm and closer to her neck.
It sounds like one of those thumbprints.
She is a TB

You can get indents on the neck as far down as the shoulders and they are called Mohammad's Thumbprints. They are usually within the region of the jugular but I've seen them in other places. The story says that when the Prophet Mohammed laid his hand on the first Arabian horse, he left his thumbprint and all descendants of that horse carry the mark.
I've seen loads of TB's with them and they are harmless. Of course, can't tell if that's what you are talking about. Quaint little tale though.

If there were no marks on the horse from the lion that probly wasnt it it is possible that one horse kicked another in the head not leaving a mark the other could have stepped in a hole or something andbroke its shoulder sounds strange though!!!

Is there hair where the indent is? Is the horse out with other horses? If it is they may be bitting eachother, my horse is sometimes out with other horses and he comes in with some bite wounds that have healed and are a balck skin color thats like a scab. I just put some Aromasalve wound ointment on it thats the brand I use its all natural you can get it cheap at:http://www.aromesse.com/pages/aromasalve.htm.
Or just go to a store or vet and get some!! GOOD LUCK!!

I have one on 2 of my horses. I bought 2 horses off of a lady that was loosing everything. The horses were nothing but skin and bones. You could see every bone. It was sad. After I have fatten them up now they have a circle indent on both of there necks. My vet said it was a touch by a angel.

my horse has what is called a "prophets thumb" marking. It just looks like someone has pushed so hard that a dent formed. It is on her neck but sounds just like what you described. Not sure it it is completly true but i heard that it is caused when a foal is placed funny before it has fully developed in the womb and their leg or other body part pushed on a certain spot creating a permanent indentor birthmark...hope this helps!Oh and i included a photo where you can see my horse's marking...sorry about the quality of the image buti had to crop it a lot so that you could see it...hope this helps...heres the page:

Is it on the front of the shoulder near the base of the neck and about an inch round? It's a 'prophets thumb' mark, much prized in desert arabs and supposed to be lucky. My horse (not an arab) has one. It's just a kink in the musculature.

My horse has one of those on his neck. It doesn't cause any problems, its purely cosmetic.
If they aren't causing any problems, I wouldnt worry about it too much. If they start to get bigger, or she starts to get more of them call a vet out to get another opinion.
