It's not going to waste. If humans were 10,000 feet tall, we wouldn't have enough air to breathe, enough food to eat, or even enough strength in our limbs to support our own weight. There are many reasons why we are the size we are.

It's all a process of evolution and natural selection. For example the dinosaurs were at one time the largest animals to ever roam the earth, this was alright back then because there was enough room and food for them, Then came the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs. And why is that? 2 main reasons. The first is because they were simply too large and had no where to hide and protect themselves from the deathly dust and the hot ash that spread across the whole planet. Light could not get through which leads me to reason 2. All vegetation for the most part died because of the years of darkness. Some animals, like primitive mammals, don't need as much food, as the energy hogging dinosaurs. They needed hundreds of pounds of food every day. So being small is actually why the mammals survived this time period and dinosaurs did not and why we are here today. So being small is good!

What about all the space below us?

The solid Earth is about 1.5 million times the mass of the atmosphere.

We have to be the size we are. Really big big people (the biggest weighed over half a ton) cannot even get out of bed.

Elephants have legs like tree trunks to support their massive weight, and we only have 2 legs.

On the other hand, insects can have legs thinner than human hairs. And insects are pretty successful.

Think of it this way. If an animal, 1 cubic inch in size and weighed 1 pound, was to grow twice as big ie 2 cubic inches in size, it would then weigh 8 pounds. Therefore you see, an ant could never get much bigger than it already is without having to have massive frame to hold the extra weight. And think of the problems a 7 foot plus person has.

we are in this size becos all we ever need is our brain and 4 of our limbs. the only difference between us and our closest relatives (ape) is that we have opposable tumbs. it started out as simple as holding stuff, then using it to build other stuff, and these innovation eventually leads to bigger brains. therefore we dont need to be extremely tall or big, we can build machines to substitute our everyday needs.
and the space above our head is not going to waste becos thats where all our natural resources are, example like the air you breath. if we're any taller we would run out of space to 'store' our air.

It's all about scale. We are made of atoms, molecules, etc and they are arranged in a certain way to make organic structures. These atoms follow certain principles in nature which makes us the size we are, in the environment we live in. The effect of the Earths gravity also has a major part to play in this.

its nature its made us the size we are to fit in with our surroundings-evolution

a bit like superman he lived on a planet with gravity 1000x stronger so when he came to earth he was 1000x stronger than everybody else

if im not mistaken the amount of oxygen effects how big we are
like the dinosaurs for instance but ignore me if im wrong...

Well if we were taller, we'd keep bumping our heads when we walked through doorways. Sorry but they do say a silly question deserves a silly Answer! Nice one though.
