I agree they are a bad idea, because they are an impediment to the free exchange of ideas that is essential to learning and research, but they are not unconstitutional. The Constitution simply prohibits the federal government from banning certain types of speech. Private organizations can ban their employees or associates from more or less whatever they want. State universities are on murky ground, but as long as they do not regulate the off-campus conduct of their students and employees, I think they're OK legally.
