....and other countries are so much better just get the heck out and go live there?

I mean, I'm not saying "Love it or leave it". Of course they are free to stay or go, but if it is so much better "there", why are they still "here"?

They would be happy in the better country. The better country would benefit from having another happy citizen. America would be better off with one less unhappy citizen. Seems like a win win win to me.

Well "Bear", Sean Penn and Harry Belefonte, just to name the first two who come to mind. They like Hugo Chavez and Venezuela much better than the U.S. and Bush. Why haven't they moved? Certainly they can afford to live anywhere they want.

Agreed! That is a good question. If you dislike America, why live here? If someone like Sean Penn thinks that living under Hugo Chavez is better, why doesn't he go and live in Venezuela?

When Bill Clinton was president, most conservatives still loved America, but did not like who was running the country, but you didn't see us fraternizing with dictators from other countries, did you?

we were born here, so we will always have ties to this country. We would like to change the way things are in our government, to make a good life for our families.

Many of us aren't as rich as you would like to believe. It doesn't have to do with our education, or lack thereof. Not every job in this country pays 6 figures. Not everyone in this country is comfortable enough financially in their lives to be able to just pick up and move wherever.

And there are some of us who, sure, we would love to move to a different country, if only for the experience of living somewhere else. Not because we hate America. But our friends and families are here... and we have many roots planted in a familiar place. So when we hear the stories of how things aren't going very well, in the land of our birth which we do love, though we sometimes don't show it often enough... we strive to make things better.

Sure it angers us when we feel our voices aren't heard by the right people.

But the struggle itself is what is necessary to feel like you are part of this country. You fight for the things you love. And if you can't fight in a war for your country, for whatever reason, you try to go at the problems, as you see them, from the inside.

I think you may be misunderstanding the criticism some people have of the US. For example, we often hear that the universal health care programs in countries such as Canada, Britain, France, etc., are superior to the American plan where access is limited by the ability to pay. Many people find the cosmopolitan attitudes in places like Italy or Denmark preferable to the provincial notions of many Americans. Many Asians find the loudness and coarseness of Americans offensive to ears more used to quiet and courtesy.

These are all reasonable criticisms, whether you agree or not. But they are by their nature focused on those areas where people see a need for improvement. It doesn't mean by any menas that people see no redeeming features in America or find other places preferable overall.

Try to be a little less sensitive. We all have room to learn and grow. If it will help, try asking what people like best about America. I think you'll be encouraged by the responses.

Because the other countries have such stiff immigration policies. They don't want hordes of American refugees flooding their public healthcare and welfare systems.

Which people are those? That's sounds like something quitters would do. Patriots stay and fight to keep America improving.

Because they love their country and want to fix it. They don't just bail out when things are wrong like you are suggesting they should. That's what cowards do. Patriots stay and fight for what's right.

because then they would have to live in countries where they actually have to live by the rules they espouse...and there is NO way they could ever do that! democrats (republicans and others never trash this country) are supreme hypocrites as we all know.
however, i wish they would do just that, this country would be better immediately if they did.

I love this country. I also am smart enough to admit we aren't doing so well. I'm going to stick around and see if I can help. Is that ok with you?
