why do PEOPLE answer EDIT to other ppls questions??

Because they're jackasses who can't imagine not having their answer be first in the queue. They type that to hold their place while they type a real answer. The only time typing 'EDIT' as an answer makes sense is if the place you have in the queue is relevant to the question, such as in those avatar games. Also, sometimes people add 'EDIT' if they change their answer later or add something to it. I usually just type an asterisk if I'm editing or adding to my answer.

*Nine times out of ten though, they do it to cheat and hold a higher place in line because they think it will score a best answer. That's why you will see a three paragraph answer as the first answer to a question. Other examples are typing just a letter or number as an answer, or putting in 'hold on a sec', 'answering', or 'typing answer'. Then they'll either research or write an elaborate response. Some people even put in a place holder, and then wait until they see a great answer. They'll then copy that answer, and since they were first in line, the asker will think it was originally their answer and choose them as the best answer. Pathetic.

People put EDIT: because rather than answer the question which will take maybe 2 minutes, they can just put edit, and be the first to answer the question. Then they will edit their answer to actually answer the question.

We do this because most people read the first few answers with the most open mind, so we want to be one of the first to answer.

It usually for avatar questions when you're suppose to answer a question about the avatar above you. You answer edit so you can go look at who the avatar above you is and then you go back and edit your answer accordingly.

when people put edit, it means there going to edit there answer later. and if they dont, they probably just forgot. no code or anything, just means there gonna edit.

they type in something quick so they can be the first answerer, then they go back and EDIT the answer with a longer answer.....
some sillies think only the 1st answerer gets best answer.
