I am replacing the sealant around the base of the shower tray. In the past after a short while it always splits...what am I doing wrong?? Any suggestions for a successful outcome please!

Sounds like it was too thick & couldn't dry properly.
Put on caulking, smooth with your finger dipped in water. Don't put on thick - - but also allow to dry thoroughly (couple days before using shower).

The tray is flexing when weight is in it. Place some heavy objects in the bottom of the tray (as much weight as you can) before sealing. Let fully cure before removing the weight and your problem should be gone.
