To be honest, there isn't much. But I did notice that Zeena is a very flat character. She seems to have only one purpose in the novel and that is to torment Ethan. However, we learn that Zeena, when the background of the story unfolds, was once the caretaker of Ethan's parents. It's only after she marries Ethan and becomes his substitute mother that she becomes embittered. She has lost purpose. She has lost focus. Because she isn't stupid, that focus must turn to something else and so it turns on herself. She sets herself up as the one she now has to care for and becomes a hypochondriac in the process. Ethan Frome's life is not the only one ruined.
