If you ponder depression and uselessness, you become more depressed and feel more useless. Activity lessens depression.

Staring into the Abyss..... Thats concentrating on one solitary thing in your thoughts....
Stares back at you ..... That would be when you have soul-searched deep enough, you will get all the answers you need. Due to the fact of that you are the Abyss and In you lies all the answers...!!...
Basically, look deep enough and you will drop all your own mental barriers and be honest to yourself, in this honesty you are reflected....( looking back into yourself from out-side...)
Don't know why people try to make it into some-thing to do with demons/devils or evil..??...
Basic psych 1-on-1....
But i do like the other.." strange.." answers...LooL...

Neitzsche was nuts. Aside from that, though, I consider this phrase to be a threat, one I incorporate into my life. Whenever I am being examined and judged, I respond by "staring long" back at the Inquisitioner with equally judgemental assessment, evaluation and exposure.

If you focus upon evil too long; it will possess you. This quote is from the half baked philosopher, nietsche. He ended up channeling a chief demon (zarathustra aka zoraster)...and it messed with his head - big time. Course, his head was already in a lot of trouble. He was soo bitter and so filled with hate for Christ. But, that's another post.

This is the same guy who said: that which doesn't kill you - makes you bitter...errr better. LOL

The full quote makes it quite clear what he meant:

Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.
