Baseball is too sophisticated and interesting to have pom-pom waving sluts on the premises.

The reasoning behind this is probably along the lines that the crowd has less to do with a baseball game than it does with basketball or football. Cheerleaders are meant to get the crowd in the game and lead cheers (hence the name, sorry for making that rediculously simple). I wont lie, the crowd plays a huge part in any sporting atmosphere, but especially in football, where communication is by play calling an trying to yell "hike" over an obnoxious crowd, or in basketball where fans behind the hoop try to distract opposing players shooting foul shots. Signals in baseball are motions and a sequence of signals called that a crowd cannot disturb with noise. Also, in baseball the crowd can't really interact with the game as much, except when they reach into fair territory and grab a ball. Yes the crowd can try an pump up their players and yell and jeer opponents, but being someone who has played all three, the opposing crowd bothered me much less in baseball.
I will also add that many college and university teams have more of a dance team like aspect to their baseball programs, but they do very little in actually leading cheers.

There are cheerleaders; they are called fans.
Hey, eyecandy babes in tight, scanty clothing doing wiggly dance and shake numbers has a certain appeal for many of the menfolk, particularly at a football game where so often nothing is going on, but they would be a dreadful distraction at a baseball game, and not really in keeping with the "family atmosphere" experience that MLB sometimes tries to cultivate. As well, there'd be nowhere for them to prance about, since unlike football where there is ample sideline room, baseball's foul territory sees plenty of game action. Want Ortiz to see (and hammer) another pitch because Posada collided with Mysti while tracking that popup? I don't think so.
The drunken executives can always go to a strip club after the game.

Becasue in a game like basketball all that happens is that you watch players run up and down the court trying to but a orange ball in a basket. Where is the fun in that. In baseball though it is always somthing different. you do not know if the batter will steal the base or be caught stealing. in baseball anything can.

I think that the reason that baseball doesn't have cheerleaders is because they may get hit by the ball!!!!!!!!!!

i have to agree that baseball is too sophisticated to have s. And in football and basketball you know where the ball is going to end up so you know where not to put the s, in baseball you don't know where the ball is going. Plus basketball and football are 2 boring-*** sports so they had to put something interesting in there to get attention.

thats a good question, never really thought of it.
i guess it's because its not really a sport where you need to be pumped up for like basketball or football, it's more of a game that requires focus and finesse, and cheerleaders would only distract you in baseball.
good question!
