We have a friend of the family who is turning 100 this week; she's not senile or anything, and is enjoyable to be around. We want to get her something special for her birthday, but we're having trouble coming up with ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Haha, some of you guys are terrible! She's in good health, can still see quite well, and her hearing isn't bad either. And up until two years ago, she lived alone. Anyways, I think I'll go with the picture answer, but so many of you have said that, so I'll have to go with the first person who suggested it; thanks everyone!

How about the last 100 years of man's accomplishments that they have witnessed. It will show thought, love and above all else, it would be fun.
DONT" include wars, or other hurtful things..
But like, Air conditioner, how cars have developed...TV..etc...it would be a fun project and everyone can take part in it.

How wonderful that your friend is turning 100 years old. We have a lady that is right across the hall from me and she to just turned 100 years in July. The first thing they gave this lady is one huge party. And did she have a ball. She to is not senile or have any medical problem. Her hearing is bad, but hey at 100 I would say that is fine. I know she got an awful lot of flowers and someone made her a memory book with picture's from the time she was born util now. That was very nice. They also gave her CD'S of songs from the past. These were special ordered. If I go out into the hall I can hear her playing them. This is giving her great enjoyment. Someone also gave her a gift certificat for the hair dressers. She goes every Friday. Also someone gave her a gift certificate for the Grocery store. A gift certificat for long distant calling may be nice. I hope this helps a little. I am sure she has lots of stories to tell. Have fun at her party!

Is she having a party of any kind? If not, take her out for a nice dinner. Make sure you mention it is her birthday and how old she is. Maybe a nice bouquet of flowers. Couple of other posters had a good idea about creating something using things from the past, maybe a scrapbook about all the changes in the world since she was born and things in the news the day she was born. You can do a search on line and find a lot of info. Also when in doubt a gift card is also good.

I'd tell her congratulations for a long yet young life of wisdom. Thats a big deal living for a century so buy them a birthday card like any regular person and give her a 100 dollars. Then put on the card: "Even 100 dollars doesn't make up for what you achieved!" Oh and give them a hug.

What your 100-year-old friend might really enjoy is a short home video of her friends and family wishing her well, paying her tribute or reading poetry or prose pieces that she loved. It would be a celebration of her life from the people most important to her. I did a similar home video presentation for a friend on her 25th Wedding Anniversary, and it was a big hit. You could watch the video at her party as part of the entertainment!

I'd get her something really fun, like perhaps one of those really cool scientific games from those smart toy stores, or may get her a brand new PS3 so she could finally see what all those electronic games are about.

Or for the more traditional route I'd say buy her a really nice art set or perhaps some beautiful art for her house, maybe a book set or something.

Congrats to her for turning 100 - she has now lived for one whole century! AMAZING!

Wow! She's a cool 100!
What is she into? Does she like board games? Bingo? If she likes things like this, buy her some bingo sessions.

How about get her closest relative to conive with you. Ask for her favorite picture of herself when she was younger and get it enlarged, put in a beautiful frame?

If she's into visiting attraction parks (such as Monterey Bay Aquarium), buy a ticket for her and for some other seniors who she wants to take with her (group trip of seniors).

How about take her to a salon and have her hair and/or nails done with her bestfriend? Your role will be the financer and the driver.

Happy 100th Birthday to her!!!!

A motorized scooter?
Meals on Wheels?
A Life Insurance Policy?
A Stripper?

O.k. I'm done having fun.
How about gathering up some photos from different times in her life and putting together a photo album.
At that age, I would think, that sentimental things are more important.

That's really all that I could come up with.
Good luck and have fun :)

If you are all going to put your money together, a nice rocking chair would be something she would really love.
A cheaper idea from just one person is a beautiful stuffed animal. I gave one to an old person once, and she LOVED it! At 100 years old, they can't see very well, nor can they hear very well...but they can still feel. Stuffed animals feel really nice. They are used to getting gifts like powder, perfumes, and health care stuff....but something as frivolous as a stuffed animal is never given to them. My husband thought it was a bad idea but I insisted, and she loved it most out of All of her gifts. It really made her smile!

How about a collage of photos of her last 100 years? You could get a really large matte frame to have friends and family sign, like they do at weddings.
