Here's what I read on Amazon:

[*** I've seen a few reviewers complaining that this new release doesn't contain the same "special features" as the "silver anniversary" edition (region 2, released a few years ago). While this is true, I honestly don't think we're losing anything of real importance. Let's compare:

* The Silver Anniversary Edition (region 2) contains:

- Two audio commentaries:
Mike Hodges (Director) / Brian Blessed (Actor).
- An original Flash Gordon serial
- A 30 minute interview with Mike Hodges
(Redundant considering the commentary)
- Theatrical trailer and photo slide show

* This new release contains:

- Two featurettes:
Alex Ross (Artist) / Lorenzo Semple Jr (Screenwriter).
- An original Flash Gordon serial
- Theatrical trailer ***]

Since I'm in Region 1, I haven't seen the Silver edition. I have fond memories of this movie though. How about you?

I never really got into this movie, but my brother loved it. I just remember the Queen soundtrack that he would play ad nauseum (I really like Queen but "Flash... Ah-ahhhhhh does not really provide an adequate showcase for their talent) In memory of my brother, I will probably add it to my queue.

...although the film is most enjoyable, as a result of it's 'riding-the-coattails-of-Star Wars' cheezy campiness, and has achieved a most revered and respectable cult following, since it's inception, I find myself hard pressed to replace my present copy, despite the meager extras the new version appears to offer.

The film has achieved some cult respectability with the favored masses; I'm of the opinion that a proper retrospective documentary should have been in order, featuring all of the principle players, behind-the-scenes contributors, almost iconic musical score contribution (thanks to Queen), as well as the overall impact on the comic-book style of sci-fi storytelling, itself...

...yeah, I might pick it up, baring a more-than-respectable bargain price...

Oh, I'll definitely be buying this on release day. I can't believe it's taken this long to get FLASH GORDON back in print on DVD.
