timing belts break with age i assume you have 115000 miles on it they break between 85000 and 120000
the rubber and fibers get old and the teeth break off

or the bearings on the idlers go bad and the belt burnes off

i do them for $200 to $300 depending on the engine you can expect to pay $400 most places there not a do it youre self job the marks for the timing are confusing

sounds like you broke a timing belt to me sorry
good news this engine wont bend valves
have the water pump swaped also (for maintanace )

A timing belt is similar to a fan belt, they can eventually break due to wear and age and fatigue. As far as a timing belt goes it can break for a number of reasons but most of the time something in that timing belt area will start to go bad (idler pulley , waterpump, balance shaft.) If by chance one of these parts start to fail or actually seize up you can shear off teeth on the belt.

Rubber belt exposed to engine heat usually get brittle and they snap. In interference engine, it usually takes several valves with it. Cars made in 80s, the quality of the belt was so bad that sometimes the belt losses the timing tooth and the whole belt jumps tooth or slips. Time to time, the belt tensioner also fail. If it stop spinning, it gets hot and belt snaps.

you may examine lots of the different solutions to work out what an interference engine is yet: A Honda with a broken timing belt exhibits an rather undesirable maintenance schedule. you're able to desire to ask your self what else wasnt tended to in the time of those kilometers. everyone who owns a honda of that 3 hundred and sixty 5 days woudl understand the belt is due between one hundred twenty and one hundred sixty thousand kilometers so it would desire to have properly over 2 hundred if it broke. I easily have seen those belts circulate approximately 250 without breaking till coolant or oil leaks on it to degrade it. And its in many cases the cogs that deteriorate first. The belt will only injury if between the gears it runs seized up like a tensioner pully or water pump. pondering you're wanting to purchase it think of roughly lots of the different important issues that in the time of all probability werent achieved on time. Oil adjustments, brakes, tires, suspension, transmission amenities and so on. i could stay faraway from a motor vehicle thats belt replaced into only achieved using fact it broke.. stable success!

It is a normal wear thing, like tires. Some car makers recommend replacing the timing belt as a specific mileage is reached. I think the timing belt connects the camshaft and the crankshaft.

normal wear item like any other belt but 60000 is a common rule of thumb.. other causes are oil leaks from camshaft or crankshaft seals, some also drive the waterpump so a pump failure can break the belt
