For years I have heard many of women complain that american men are sexist when they dont believe in paying them equal, promoting them, or treating with equal respect.
Yet many of these women fail to acknowledge that there are areas where men are more lenient on women or even make excuses to justifywhy treating women better than men is not discrimination.
1. One example of that is selective service.
2. Another issue is the criminal justice system. If a woman like debra lafave sleeps with an underage boy we are willing to take any excuse as to why she did what she did however we wuld not do the same for a male. The same can be said about capital punishment. Many states such as texas, virginia, and others who hand out the death penalty quickly for male murderes are very rare to hand down a death sentence for a woman under the same circumstances.

1. With regard to selective service, the stance I take is that it should be all together abolished, neither draft for men or women, but that ties more to my political beliefs than gender relations

2. I agree with you that the criminal justice system is jaded. However, it's interesting to note that those cases are in fact capitol trials, but the punishment determined by the jury is almost always more lenient on women. To me, this shows that it is not necessarily the system itself that is sexist, but society in general that still sees women as the "weaker" sex, and more evidence of the patriarchy, (techinically this would go for number one too, as the politicians responsible for selective service are elected to office by the general population)

Many modern women today are in fact benevolent sexists (google it) and many men, whether equal-minded or not, still view women as the weaker sex, deserving of special treatment.

Any feminist worth her salt fights against this, recognizing that it is a sexist society with leftovers from the patriarchy, and further recognizes how much feminism is still necessary, as it is the only gender rights group politically powerful enough to do something about these inequalities.

With your first example, those who are knowledgeable about it (politicians, etc) agree that if the draft were ever reinstated women would be included. And the National Organization of women is campaigning to have women included in selective service, and to allow women to fight on the front lines.
On your second point I agree whole-heartedly. There does seem to be some discrepancy when it comes to women having sex with younger boys, and it's very wrong. However, I don't think that this is so much a symptom of "women not accepting responsibility" as it is a symptom of our society viewing women as the "weaker sex." For some reason, even if the victim is a young adolescent, our society does not see the relationship as a "detriment" to the boy. On the contrary, you hear men talk all the time about how "lucky" that kid was who was molested by that attractive blonde teacher. That's disgusting. It's as if males (strong, masculine) cannot be victimized by women (weak, feminine) even if the male is a child and the woman is an adult. WTF? Every woman I know thinks she should have gotten the same sentence a man would have. It's some men who seem to want to dismiss it, even if it's to make a joke about it.
As for capital punishment, how many times have women gotten a lesser sentence for the SAME EXACT CRIME? That would be a little hard to quantify, no? I don't think it's true that women are less likely to receive the death penalty. Just because there aren't a lot of women on death row doesn't mean that they are letting women off for heinous crimes left and right.

Issues One, I have talked to a lot of guys who think women should NOT be In the selective service because they may get hurt. I think they should stop it all together.

Issues Two. YES there is a double standard there. women who commit a crime should be held to the same standard as a man. NO ONE should get away with murder or sleeping with a underage child. and as for anyone hurting children i think they should get life. but the sad fact is people do not understand that this is a HUMAN problem not a gender problem. until people wake up and see that this is indeed a problem I am afraid nothing will change for the better.

In all situations, I would prefer to be treated as an equal instead of a lady. We'd speak out more about the injustice of women not getting drafted or harsh sentences, but we're too busy fighting war and crime.

Another interesting observation that is sexist based in the criminal justice system is that women are punished much more severely when the crime involves neglect/abuse of children, esp. leaving the child in a hot car, than men are. Seems women are held to a higher standard than men when it comes to ''remembering" there is a child in the car, while men are "excused" because they are distracted thinking of "more important things."

Unfortunately, sexism lives; actually it is rampant. And the fact that it is much more subtle than before contributes to its insideousness.

an somewhat exciting evaluate regards to the mummy not being required to tell the father the baby even exists. I wish I had an answer, yet i honestly do not. the female ought to lie and say it replaced right into a rape baby, and honestly we does not rigidity her to tell the guy then. yet what if it replaced right into a woman in a marriage who abruptly desperate that she had to end a being pregnant that her husband by no potential knew approximately. could he a minimum of are conscious of it is something she has achieved despite if he can not ward off it? perchance, perchance not. and ultimately, what with reference to the case the place it replaced into consensual and for despite reason, the father does not understand with reference to the baby. honestly the father has a outstanding to nicely known and a outstanding to the baby except he's an not worth parent. How do we separate this from the rape circumstances, could the female tutor she replaced into raped? What if the mummy had in simple terms escaped an abusive husband and this might placed her back in touch with him? Sorry, no reliable solutions right here.

-Congress decides on who registers for selective service, feminists and non-feminists have sued in court many many times trying to expand women's role in the military, but no wins yet. Write a letter to your congressman/woman.

-The criminal "justice" system is obviously flawed-who gets justice? Congress decides *what* laws to pass, police and the community decide *which* laws to enforce, and judges and juries decide *how* to enforce the laws, and all of it is based on lots of sexism, racism, and classism. If you're poor, of color and female or male, you get the worst of everything. I don't see the justice system changing anytime soon for the better.

1. I have been registered for the Selective Service since my 18th birthday.

2. Women who molest young boys disgust me just as much as men who molest young girls.

Before you make generalizations, perhaps you should take the time to understand that most American women don't fit into the categories you find most comfortable to deal with.

the men doing such things ARE sexist, like you say, it's men that are keeping the women from having equal responsibility, because they still don't think of women as equal--and i agree, it is a major issue. it's the attitude that women are weak. i do acknowledge this. it makes me sick. you forgot to mention child custody issues, as well.

Maybe American women haven't watched Spiderman as much as people who ask questions like this.

Maybe it's because American women don't yet have equal rights.
