Why do people assume that I am a man whenever I mention my girlfriend on this thing? I am not a man.

People will always make the assumption when the term girlfriend/boyfriend is made that your heterosexual, maybe you should be more specific if this upsets you or use the term " partner" as more commonly used these days.
