i cant get guild wars started and i cant find a good place to download directx 8.....help

All new games use DirectX 9.0c and you can download that at Microsoft's website.

Yes the first poster is correct- download the current DirectX 9 from Microsoft, that works for any games that support earlier versions of DirectX.
DirectX 10 only works under Vista anyway. For everyone else running Windows XP, 2000 or 98/Me, DirectX 9 is what you need.

Guild Wars is being developed by ArenaNet, a subsidiary of NCsoft. Rather than have a continuous beta ArenaNet hold Beta weekends, where pre-ordered players and invited friends are allowed to test the game. This weekend was one such event and I was lucky enough to be invited along.

at microsoft's website, download direct x 10 its better than direct x 8.
